Dropped my rifle

Well yesterday I opened my safe after moving it so I could paint the wall behind it. Later I opened the safe an a rifle fell out onto the tile floor with a deafening thump. I stood there staring in disbelief. My wife then said, "You need a bigger safe." She picked up the rifle I was still staring at it wondering what the heck just happened. Once I gained my senses I checked it out and saw the Windage turret had a nice ding in it. I wondered if it was knocked off zero or totally FUBAR on the inside. I took it to the range and found it was 8 inches low and 15 inches to the right. I got it back to a good 100 yard zero and then fired a shot at the bottom left corner. The went up 8 minutes fired, right 8 minutes fired. dropped 8 minutes, the moved left 8 and shot again hitting beside my first shot. So it seems it held up. The scope is a Leupold MK4. Has any body else done anything remotely this careless to a scope and had a better result or totally docked up there scope doing this.??

Your not the only one to drop a rifle. I've dropped them and had a supposedly racked rifle fall. Oopsies and careless handling have bitten many firearms owners sometimes with serious results. These are the main reasons for making sure firearms are unloaded and bolt safety indicators are in place. Been there done that!

Guilty as charged too. Certainly makes a strong argument for those riflescope brands with a lifetime "no fault" warranties (Vortex comes to mind).

My life long dream was to have a rifle with beautiful wood, preferably California Claro Walnut. In 2009 my special ordered Cooper Varmint Extreme was delivered. 2 years later, while taking rifles one at a time out of the safe, I was walking away from the safe and the Cooper hit the deck. Broke the stock at the pistol grip. It turns my stomach to this day while thinking about it. Cooper replaced the stock with another fine example but it didn't come cheap.

Sorry to hear your rifle took a tumble but all I could focus on is that you got a pass for a new safe =) Most top end optics can take a licking and keep on ticking, take a look at the Nightforce testing...they beat them up and still track just fine. Let us know what new safe you end up with!

Well my wife likes Liberty Safes... So probably going to look for a Fat Boy after the storm passes. She actually could careless what I spend on gun stuff. Because guns will always maintain decent value where as vehicles are noting but a pile of rapidly depreciating metal. That being said she does like new trucks.
