Drop port for "medium size" rounds?

Hi guys,

Anyones have tried / used this before?

I know it works flawlessly with PPC/BR/Dasher rounds, but wondering if it would work (just fine) for "medium size" rounds such as .308win/ .284win/ 7SAUM or WSM?

I am a right handed, thinking about RB, LP, drop port + cone bolt (or Rem style bolt head) & sako extractor @ 6 o'clock.

Any input/thoughts will be much appreciated!

Thanks,
seb.

Seb,
If you want to do an experiment, you could have Dave Kiff make you a long action Remington bolt with the extractor at 6:00 o'clock, and make a single shot adapter with the correct cutout for the case that you want to try. With the right work, it might shoot pretty well.

Tim Sellars, the maker of the Sure Feed cartridge holders, built a 7 mag drop port out of a Remington action several years ago.

I would not hesitate to build a drop port for any caliber under say a 2.5" case or so.
My HV-Gun is a drop-port 6Dasher and love it.....

Hi Jeff, how are you!? Thank you for the info! Glad to know it also works for a long, magnum case.

Hi Donovan, what is your thoughts on your drop port action.... the pluses & minuses?

Thanks,
seb.

I opened my Viper drop port for 6.5x47. Stiller advised me not to go any larger. I would think a phone conversation with them would be worthwhile.

Thanks for the good advise Dean!
I don't want to bother him (Mr. Stiller) so I'll try to do some experiments soon when I have time.

Seb, I shoot with a lot of drop ports. I almost ordered one. They can be very fast and reliable. I have just seen more foul ups with them. Yes if you get the technique down they are great, but I have seen guys that have owned then 10 years let a loaded case fall into the cut out and stop them in the middle of a group. The dual port is just a little more fool proof I think and just as fast. Then the best of both worlds is the Kelbly static ejector IMO.
