dpms 308 reloading

looking for good combination for 200 yd target shooting, have tryed 155 gr a-max with pretty good results, also useing remington brass but heard that lupa is better.Have a friend at work that as dillon reloader and was going to order thru midway on some different brand of bullets maybe smk 175s

Just my opinion, but an AR beats up brass and Lapua is pricey. When I had a rock river I used rem brass and 168's for mid range shooting. RL-15 @ 42 to 42.5 grains worked well. Just make sure to FL size to 3 thousands below headspace and your good to go.

For what it's worth,
I live in the town in Minn where DPMS is, I'm a member of the gun range that is literaly out their back door. There are ALOT of dpms ar shooters at that range.
With winter snow gobbling up cases that can't be found, and the recent melt there is alot of once fired fedral brass to be found in 308!
Many of the AR shooters are just recreational shooters in what we call the "spray an pray" group, but I have seen the dedicated shooters on the 200 range walk over and help themselves to pick-up brass on the 100.
One gent at work takes his ar "doggin" each year, has a neihbor load for him, he's using win brass and smk 168's.
Can't give ya specific's just observation. good luck :)
p.s. I shoot 308 and some of those ar cases have a pretty good ding in the side of the case from eject, I toss those in a scrap bucket, small nicks don't seem to bother, and come out with fire forming

I have a EGW/Sabreco .308 upper I use for NRA ATC matches and for palma. I use LC brass but I've found that 43gr of Varget with a 155gr SMK (shortline) or a 175gr (600yd line) SMK shoots really nice. For Palma I up the charge to 45gr with the 175gr SMK and it works very well. For 200yd I'd stick with the 155gr class bullets or maybe even the 135gr SMKs or the 125gr TNT's.

Also if you haven't I'd recomend the Tubbs CWS really helps with brass life and preasure issues. Especially on factory uppers that are usually over gassed.

I have a DPMS .308 and I have to agree that it will beat up the brass. You will have to full length resize, which will eventually cause the case head to separate and there is nothing that can be done about the dings in the rim from the ejector. I tried the SMK in 155, 168, and 175grs. I finally settled on the 168 as being a little more forgiving of seating depth ( 2.800") pushed by 43 grs. of Varget, giving 2,600 fps from a 26" Shilen barrel. It will hold 3/4 MOA, maybe better, my technique is spoiled from shooting heavy bolt guns, I find the AR uncomfortable to shoot.

I have three of these beasts, two in 308 and one in 6xc. First regarding brass, a tubb carrier weight system helps with the brass. It delays unlocking which helps with the ejector swipe and is easier on the case rim. The little bit of extra length also reduces the bolt carrier overrun and may save you from a broken bolt stop.

My 1000 yard load was a 155 Lapua Scenar with 45.5 of Varget in a Winchester case. This load was good for about 2780 fps in a 24" rifle and solidly supersonic at 1000. If I was still using the rifle at 1000, it would be with the 2156 Sierra.

I also use 42.5 of IMR4064 with the 168 and 175 Sierra in Winchester brass. Velocity was a little low, but accuracy was excellent (Lately we save all the Varget we can get for Palma matches, so I have quit using it in the LR308)
