Dont you just hate it.

Hi chaps,
Have a prize shoot next weekend so thought I would take my lads 223rem aswell so loaded up some ammo last night.
Got up today to tidy up the loading bench and what do I find 8 little grey things next to the press some runaway 2208 I remembered I bumped a case on the press and the projectile flew out I had a quick look time I got glasses I think NOW CAN YOU TELL WHICH CASE IT CAME FROM.
Have a guess and see who wins I let yous know who the winner is next week rear tray left bullet at left rear is number 1 and count to front of tray then back to rear and so on and front tray right hand front bullet is number 77

It's always worthwhile when you're loading to sprinkle a few grains of powder on your bench. Then you will never have that concern again.

Based on a crude "average" value for a kernel of powder, there are anywhere from 5-8 kernels in 0.1 gr. In my hands with .223 and .308 F-TR loads, 0.1 gr is usually good for anywhere from about 5-12 fps velocity. Based on these data, you're looking at a probable MAX difference of 15-20 fps...MAX. I really wouldn't be too concerned about which one it was.

On the other hand, if it really bothers you...simply drives you absolutely insane...like Hannibal Lechter insane...like finding a crumb from a slice of three day old marble rye in your bed, or a single white cat hair on some else's jet black dress shirt, or a small irregularly-shaped pebble in the toe of your painfully narrow French designer shoe, or an elderly fat man at the bus stop grinding his enormous yellow teeth in frustration about the high cost of prescription drugs, or a blue-green horse fly large enough to steal your class ring buzzing around in your room on a hot summer night...etc., etc., etc.,...if it bothers you as much as any of these things, your only option is to pick one round at random and mark it with a bright red Sharpie as if it actually was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the single offending under-charged round. Look at it every day, swearing at it occasionally if necessary (i.e. - You little bast*rd, you!!! You think you're going to ruin my match, you little SOB, but I'm here to tell you it ain't gonna happen you little pr*ck!!!), kind of similar to that, anyhow. By the time of the match, you will have completely convinced both yourself and the round you marked with red Sharpie that it IS, in fact, the one offending, undercharged round. Then just use it as a fouler...problem solved ;).

Not that fussed but I still hate it was just a post for a bit of jest but I still think it will show up at 900yrd.

Cheers Trev.

The second part of mine was a jest as well, the first was not. It's impossible to say with certainty you won't be able to tell which one it was. However, I'd say the odds favor that the difference in velocity of that one round from average may fall well within your total velocity ES for 25+ rounds.

;);)Precision loading ?
If your right that I will show up at 900yrds
I see only two ways to determine which case its is,
Take your loading block as in photo 900 yards away place on an angle so all rounds are visible the look at it with your scope (easy )
Or you could get all precisiony and weigh them ,
Eliminating frustration, expectancy, tension,
And go and win the match!!
PS good luck with that ;)

I feel that you actually lost 2 kernels from 4 different rounds. So overall it won't make that much difference. Just shoot them and don't worry to much. Mind over matter, so it doesn't get into your head. It could make you throw other shots if you think about it too much.

Now you have done it im going for the meds ,
Its all good I found it number 37 I pulled the lot and it was from one case so im in my happy place now.

Trev - if this ever happens again, if you have a rough idea of about where (even if not exactly where) in the queue the the undercharged round is, just use that whole section of the loaded rounds in the shortest distance matches, where it will probably have the least effect.

Dump Powder....Seat Bullet....Dump Powder....Seat bullet....Dump Powder....Seat Bullet.......ect...ect...ect....;)

I planned on doing that but it got the better of me I best make sure just to not do it again.
As it turns out it going to be blowing its nuts off on the weekend so the 223 may stay in the gun bag.
