Ok, actually, it should read "don't DO this , ANYWHERE"
Anyway, I have been doing some neck turning for my two new 300 WSM tubes. I have gotten through 160 pieces through last Friday. I don't use any oil/grease/cutting fluid....I use water. The purpose of the water is only to keep the mandrel cool so the cases spin easily and don't create heat and thus, turn hard. The cold water keeps the mandrel from swelling due to heat.
I set the cutting tool in a tub of water, pull it out to turn the neck, put it back in to champher the necks....chuck up another brass and repeat. Silly me...I left the cutting tool in the water Fri. PM. I saw it there on Saturday morning, but figured what the hell, it's aluminum.....no problem. Mon morning...dish has a big pool of orange slime in it....RUST!!!! I forgot about the cutter itself. Oh well....nothing hurt, so i started in on some more cases. Then, that fricken light went off in my head!!!!
I wonder if the dimensions changed on my cutter....after all, it was a BIG pile of orange slime....that HAD to come from somewhere.... :-[
YEP....It did come from somewhere!!! My pre screw up brass all measured .01360 - .01370......every one I re measured.
POST screw up brass......01450 - .01460.!!!
Again, DON'T TRY THIS (AT HOME) :-[
