Congratulations to Don on his victory at the Ontario Rifle Association`s 129th Annual this past weekend. The ORA is the remnants of the 1856 militia whose charter is to "maintain a well trained corps of riflemen".
The 1000 yard final saw a snaking tail wind in which flag amd mirage shifts were so sudden that some of the 10 finalists started off with 1s and 2s on the DCRA 5 ring target with a 1/2 minute V ring. Don`s long experience allowed him to cope and score a 71-5V in the 15 shot match, incredible score under the conditions.
Don is a retired hydro linesman from Penetang, a small town on the shore of Georgian Bay in northern Ontario. He has lots of storys about hanging on a tower 300 feet in the air while a helicopter is dancing around him trying to drag a line into position on a windy day. Not for the faint of heart.
Don was shooting a 7mm WSM in a custom rifle. I will try to get the load he was using.
