Dog Track

Normally you can see a nail imprint with a dog print. Dont see it in pic. Typically i do not see nail marks with coyotes in my area

Definitely not a coyote track. Doesn't fit as a dog track either, at least not any dogs that I have been around. We are getting Bobcats here but I am not an expert on their tracks. Round makes me say bobcat though. Hopefully someone more familiar with them will chime in. I have hunted coyotes with hounds many years and that isn't a coyote track or any hound track that I have seen.

That is absolutely a dog; no wolf or coyote has a track that round.Every coyote track i've seen in wet ground that's dry typically has the nail imprints. Although terrain they live in dictates nail growth as well as daily activities. Woodland coyotes larger nails, prairie, mountain coyotes have short well worn nails, etcc. I've killed hundreds of coyotes and even did it for a paycheck; you learn quite a bit when doing so.

Bobcat track usually 2-3" " wide, 3 lobes on "heel" of back feet. Likely closer to 2" wide in Illinois. No where near the width of my hand. Does look feline. Coyote tracks are longer than wide. Maybe your hands are smaller, not average. Haven't seen dog tracks without nails. And wild animals have even pressure on the pads because of constant exercise on soft surfaces. Dogs lack that stability and efficiency.

IMG_6266.jpegDefinitely k9. On a cat track you can’t draw an x through the tracks shown. Also on a cat track all four toe pads can typically fit into the size of the heel pad. I would say it’s from a domestic dog by the shape. Also looks splayed out from sinking into the mud.

I dont doubt your experience. Where i hunt them in Arizona i never see nail prints in the dirt or mud or around water holes. We got some dingy dogs here in the desert that dont get very big. I am no expert by any means
