Does the DNZ Reaper need to be Lapped? Check this out!

I recently bought the DNZ Reaper one piece scope and rings for my Savage 93. DNZ claims the unit is milled from one piece of aluminum and does not need to be be lapped.

I lapped it and found the milling was not all that accurate. There is a horizontal milling line going right down the middle and is reversed from the front ring to the rear. It took a fair amount of lapping to get it this fare so I stopped and called it good.

However, I still like the unit for my rimfire .17 See below.

Once the scope is mounted in them see how much clearance are on the side of rings. Make sure when you lap you put that same clearance back in before lapping or just lap the lower. My two sets of 1" DNZ were perfect.

Another thing to think about is tightening it down on a reciever that is more than likely not flat or should I say when they belt sand it to give that grainy finish to it ,could make the reciever high in the front or back causing the new dnz mount to distort and when you lap check it ,then it looks terrible. The thing to do is to tighten the front and see if a gap exisits in the back and then loosen the front and tighten the back and see if there is a gap.I am bedding all my mounts on non custom guns just for this reason as by installing a perfectly good mount and distorting it and then thinking it is the mount when in fact the reciever rings are not true.
