Does Barrel Vibration Exist and Does it Matter

How is that sheet of 6061 joined? Did that require a lot of hammering with a soft mallet?
What is the thought behind using the wrap? Is it just a barrel length tuner or work on some other sort of principle?
Long barrel or a short PPC special which are {in my observation} about 22” long and stout say 1.25”? A would think a short, stout barrel would have very short wave and high frequency vibration.
Just have to ask…. Is there an accessory hat made from the same material to block out mental interference from other shooters???

I turned down the outside of the barrel while between centers and then heat shrunk the aluminum tubing over it
We know aluminum actions shoot well so I figured why not try something similar with the barrel. Aluminum dampens vibrations, you can easily hear the difference compared to straight stainless

While the FEA models and high speed videos are interesting, there is no direct indication that they play a role in load optimization. Analyzing a target using an expansion of Vaughn's method shows:


The blue is the actual POI from a powder charge ladder, and the red is the difference from the ballistic slope (drop via ballistic calculator) where this difference reflects the muzzle position. The barel time can be determined from the velocity such that the barrel vibration frequency is determined, and analysis for multiple rifles and calibers show this is associated with the speed of sound as energy travels longitudinally along the barrel around 10,000 cycles/second on the average. The bullet is gone before the FEA cantiliver beam vibration becomes a factor. These are consistent with Vaughn and represent measured results from a target, not a theoretical conjecture.
