The doubts of those that don't think it will work not withstanding, both reboring and re-rifling and reboring and relining are services that are offered by a number of outfits. Check the ads in RIFLE magazine.

Yes they are services out there that rebore an rifle but for a rifle barrel maker it is not cost effective for the tooling needed to do as you want because they use raw material to make the product you need.

I had a 35 Whelen AI that came from a 30-06 barrel that was rebored by Cliff LaBounty. It shot great. Lots of sub 1/2" groups from that skinny barrel. Wish I still had that rifle. Do I think that its worth it for a BR or match rifle? Nope. But part of that is because I'd rather stick to the same cartridge.
