Do you think you are to old to shoot competition, well your not! READ!

Don't let your aging bods hold you back!

Although a centerfire reloader since 1952, I'd never shot in competition until 2005.

Since 2006, my first year as a Grand Senior, I have set 10 NRA national records in F-Class... 5 records at 1000y, and 5 at mid-range. While that Danny Biggs whipper-snapper (2-3 years my junior) now holds the 1000y Grand Senior record, I've managed to hang on to 3 of the mid-range titles.

BTW....the NRA record books are riddled with Danny's name.

Also, have won the 10ac state F-class award twice and have a pile of placques from IBS 600y.

Those who are interested in how we older shooters...lots of us... fare on the national scene should go to this url:

Frank,
That is awesome, I read through some of stats and I am impressed. I am only 47 and have been reloading since 1988 but have only been shooting competitively as in sanctioned matches since last year. I started competing in local unsanctioned events with factory ammo in 1984. If I could get off weekend night shift I could attend a lot more matches, I have learned a lot in the last year or so hanging out with the big boys and I hope to learn a lot more from fella's just like you. My dad will turn 78 this year, I imagine if you have been reloading since 52 you probably are somewhere in that neighborhood, that gives me a lot to look forward to, since you older guy's steadily kick my butt at the range :D My hat is off to you and I wish you many more years of straight shooting sir.
Sincerely Wayne.A.Bezona

fm1947, i love your listin, so here goes my 2ct worth i am 76 have 2 bypasses, a new valve and love shootin, have since i was 5 yr old and got a 22.

i now concentrate on Ihmsa, and pd, too slow for ipsc, but love to out shoot the fast kids then hated to be so slow that they beat me on time vs points.

try shooting 1/2 scale 222 in an xp at 200 meters and you will find age is not the divider

Bob

bheadboy,

Soon as I heal up I will try, maybe, to shoot ipsc, and steel, but I never heard of 1/2 scale and never heard of a match around here. It's great the way most shooters no matter how many medical issues they go through they still get back to shooting, glad to hear your still making noise.

Frank

Going back to 2002, only 2010 was surgery free. There was always something going on which inevitably delayed my progress in shooting. In 2008 I had my appendix out and I was lucky when I did because had I waited one more day and I might have died. If somebody could find a way to kill Arthur Itis, I'd be a happy man.

I am younger than you two but I know what you mean, I had eye surgery on 5/6 and I have a match on 5/14 and I am going to make it :) then I have shoulder surgery on 5/18 and a match on 5/28 and if I have to hire a gun caddy I will shoot then also ;D
Wayne.

When I had shoulder reconstruction in May of 2007, I was having physical therapy 2 1/2 years later.
I finally found a therapist who paid attention. I brought in my Creedmoor hard back jacket and sling to show her what shooting prone was all about and she found back and neck muscles that were dormant for a long time and got them working again. She also suggested a different place on my arm for the sling which helped alot in prone - the same for elbow placement. Probably old hat stuff to high class shooters here, but I learned a lot from her and she wasn't a shooter at all.

John,
What did you do for a living, your body sure has gone through some replacement parts.

Wayne, Gun caddy, what a great idea

I did over 25 years doing maintenance work in various places, the last ten in a county jail. Arthritis was the key culprit, however.
