Do wind flags help?

I use whole and cut up strips of snow goose socks (Tyvek), they work. reads 3mph wind, if you put the pegs in straight, they show direction well at low winds too. Did an experiment at home with them on the front lawn to see which brand I had that was most sensitive, Skyfly.
