Do the new 6mm Berger Hybrids make the 115g bullets a mute point?

For the 6mm calibers that can shoot the 115g 6mm bullets, do the new 6mm Hybrids make the 115g bullets useless?

The Hybrids have very similar BCs (Hybrid 547/278, DTAC 540/276, Berger VLD 532/272) and have the ability to be pushed faster due to lesser weight.

If the 6mm Hybrids are not very sensitive to seating depth, as has been reported, then again, not a good reason to switch to DTACs.

We know the DTACs shoot, but preliminary reports on the 6mm Hybrids show they do as well. (The 7mm Hybrids shoot well-the US Open team shoot them).

Any other reason that can be thought of to shoot the 115g class bullets in the fast twisted 6mm calibers instead of the 105g Berger Hybrids?

I wanted to compare the DTAC 115 to the hybrid but i could not get them. I will tell you that BC you have listed for the DTAC has too be a little less than the way they perform. You have to know what company the info comes from and take it with a grain of salt. Get them both and compare for your self. I tried the 105's 108's 115's 107'7 and the DTAC wins every time. It shoots in the ones in every barrel and at 2950 out of the Dasher it flat hammers at 1K 2-4 " 5 shot groups are not hard to get and 5-6 10 shot groups are the norm. So we will see as soon as the hybrid's are on the market, The forth barrel is getting ready for next year and i have 2K of the 115's to point up this winter and i have to make cases, i have 30 firings on the ones i have and still good............jim

From an external ballistics standpoint, yes, they would. Lighter and with a (slightly) higher BC means the 105 Hybrid would stay ahead in the wind. However, that's not all there is to it. Even if the hybrids turn out to be everything Berger's hoping they will be, there will still be barrels that don't like them. And there will be barrels that just love the 115s. But if you're trying to eke out every last bit of wind-cheating ballistics out of a 6mm, then the hybrid would be the way to go.

Personally, I expect the hybrid to be even better than that--both better in the wind and easier to get to shoot well. (And I'm starting to put together a build primarily to shoot the Hybrids)

Interesting point.

But what about vertical spread?
I have a 6mm Crusader and a 7 WSM both F class rifles, I use 115 DTAC in the 6mm and 180 Bergers in the 7WSM. Both hold exactly the same elevation out to 1000 yards and both seem to deflect the wind equally, but I always suffer more vertical using the 115 DTAC on windy days than I do with the 180 Bergers.

Would this be the same with the 105 Hybrid versus the 115 DTAC? I'm guessing it would be hard to tell as there is only a 10 grain difference.

Thanks guys for your thoughts on this.

I will be glad when Berger gets rolling on these bullets and more people are shooting them and reporting their results. I think the Hybrids may be "the bullet" for the 6mm.

More thoughts are welcome.
