Do proportions matter in cartridge design?

Greetings,

I'm curious what you guys think about this question. Do you think the proportions of a cartridge have any bearing on the performance? If so, then I wonder if increasing all of the cartridge dimensions proportionally would make sense.

Specifically, I'm wondering if you take the dimensions of the 30BR and increase them to the .375. From .308 to .375 is a 21.75% increase. By my calculations you would need a base size of .576. I can't find an exact rimless parent cartridge, but the .338 Lapua brass is close.

What you would get if you increased the dimensions by 21.75% would be . . .

.308 = .375 Bullet diameter

.330 = .401 base of neck

.458 = .5576 shoulder diameter

.470 = .572 base diameter

.473 = .576 rim diameter

1.520 = 1.8506 overall case length

1.178 = 1.434 length to neck

1.075 = 1.308 length to shoulder

Any thoughts?

The case volume would be larger by a greater percentage due to the fact that circular area is not a linear function but exponetial,because pie are square:)). The 50bmg is a great example because its balistics excede those of its proportional cousin the 30-06.
