DIY Scope into a Spotting Scope

Most of us upgrade our first rifle scope to a better/clearer one and religate that budget scope to the old gear bin. Here's an easy to convert that old scope into a usable and compact spotting scope with some easily sourced and inexpensive camera accessories.

The above stand Ray Hill who makes the dual vane Wicks's flags made for me several years ago. He made a ball swivel w/ Weaver base angles milled in it so I could use a ring I had on hand. He also made standard dovetails. I mounted a $90 BSA 36x on it. Pretty slick rig! It does make good use of an inexpensive or non repairable scope on hand.

I did the same with a Horus Predator scope. Just had my gunsmith tap a Weaver base for the tripod screw and works great.

Thanks for the post Moondog and welcome to the site.I`ll have to see if Amazoom sells in bulk so I can use up all my spare scopes. Jeff

I bought a wooded Gun stock that the old Gander Mt stores had That They used to just mount sample scopes on for customers to look through With all their Nikon , leupold , etc rifle scopes. The one I bought I paid 20.00 for still had a picanney mount screwed into the wood.
I mounted a Sightron lll 10-50x60 Scope on it. Then on bottom of scope I had a Extra hog saddle gun clamp I mounted to bottom of stock with a old camera tripod mount. Know I have a real nice spotting scope I can use off the tripod or just throw the stock up with no barrel on it and point like a real gun and get a good look at deer or coyote from the truck. MD
