DIY modified case

You can do that if you want. I just cut a slot in the neck of a new case with a dremel. Then I squeeze the neck together a bit so it will hold a bullet. I may mark the bullet with a marker so I can see the marks if it goes into the lands. I chamber the round then carefully pull it out. Measure and repeat. I will chamber and measure 6 times or so, watching for a consistent measurement. Average all the measurements and call that my length to the lands.

I like that and have been doing just that. I really wonder if I need this gauge anyway. What does the gang think?

I couldn’t tell you the last time I even looked for mine. Just use my bolt stripped down and go by feel.... I leave numbers to all the smart guys.
