Dishonest Sellers

I still think we need to start a list for the BAD sellers and BAD Buyers.I bought a barrel from 7mmroland about a month ago off this site.He cashed my check 3 weeks ago and I still have not received it.I have sent multiple emails with him only replying once over a week ago saying he was shipping it.I still dont have it and I only live 3 hours away from him so I know it doesnt take that long.I dont know if anybody else has had a problem with him but I would like to know if you have.I have not been on this site that long but when I buy I get the money out as quick as possible and when I sell I ship as soon as I get the money. There are probably other people out there doing the same thing so how else do protect ourselves against the dishonest???

When I sell or buy items here or other sites I insist on a home phone number not a cell number and give my home number...If the buyer will not give a home phone number I do not send any money period..I will call the person to check that is their phone number,,cost only a few cents on a calling card for the call..Money comes in to slow to give it away..IT ONLY TAKES ONE THIEF TO REALLY SPOIL YOUR OUT LOOK ON PEOPLE

Last month, I bought 500 bullets from a seller on another board. He sent them USPS Priority and it took them 26 days to get here. I thought priority meant that item goes faster than regular mail. Not so. You may yet receive the barrel. Can you track it?

There is much danger in starting a BAD GUYS list, too subjective.

Brad, you know depending on how much money I sent the thug, I might just take a three hour ride one day. Sometimes, a face to face works really well. If he is man enough to take your money he should be man enough to look you in the eyes. If something has gone terribly wrong, you could understand. But, he told you he would ship the barrel??????? It is this kind of person that spoils everything for everybody else. I hope you get your barrel or money back. Bill

Simple, Call the State Police. Here in PA they have crime guys that specialize in computer fraud. It's easy if the guy only lives 3 hours away because I would only assume he is in the same state. It would be a pretty sobering experience when a state trooper shows up ready to throw you in the back of a cruiser in a pair cuffs.

Part of the problem is that with forums a lot of posters hide behind a handle and never put their name in their postings. If it was a requirement that you had to post under your real name and not just a fictional handle, that might help a lot.

Also look into contacting the State Attorney General. A few years back, I had a seller on eBay not want to send an item. One call to the SAG office, 3 days later my item arrived.

people that do things like that ruin it for all of the good guys that are out there. it causes tension when buying off the actual good people. i hope this dont spoil the rest of us from wanting to buy and sell items. we have a good thing going here guys and lets not let one bad seed ruin it for all the real guys on here, cause there is no others place that sells such a variety of stuff and at great prices.

Please supply me with any contact info you have regarding 7mmRoland.

I also suggest you immediately send a certified demand letter to him, return receipt requested. Indicate you will send a copy of that letter to the local police/sheriff if you do not hear from him within 14 days.

I do caution that in MANY situations what a buyer assumes to be cheating/fraud turns out to be a lost/delayed shipment.

I once returned a press to Wideners, they sent me the wrong model). After 30 days, Fedex paid the claim in full. The unit arrived at Wideners TWO,2) months later.

Re REAL Names -- for Privacy and Security reasons, for the vast majority of forum members) I do not want to require people to register with their real names.

However, Sellers are NOW currently required to provided true name, current phone, number and address to a buyer on request. It's only common sense that, if a seller will not disclose his name and address, you should walk away... and not send money to "Mr. X" at a post office box. I don't believe there has yet been a dispute where moneys were sent to a seller who had not disclosed his name.

I to had a guy steal from me on this site goes by the name GUTSHOT101,DONAVAN CLARY went to the moderator with the problem and was told there was not much that could be done.I know this problem has happened to a couple of other people on the site that I have bought from. This tells me there are a lot of people buying form this site that are worthless.,SO I TO THINK THERE SHOULD BE A BAD APPLE LISTING) And It still bothers me when i see his name on the whos loged in list at the bottom of the page.

Moderator,Paul), I agree with rcw3,Robert), everyone using this forum should be required to list their full name in the view members profile. And as BJILEG,Larry) stated, you sure as heck need more information then good faith prior to mailing off your money order. I've enjoyed nothing be pleasant experiences with all the honest folks I've made purchases from on 6mmBR, all items that I've purchased have been as advertised. But with all pricey items I've taken precautions and have ask for and verified the phone number information to help protect myself. I always send money orders for expensive items certified mail. What would it take to require all sellers to provide both their full name and a working land line phone number in their view members profile as a requirement to sell.

Mason, I've checked my private message archive and can't find any message from or to your Forum name "Mason". Perhaps it was deleted, or you sent your complaint via regular email. If you would like to explain the situation again, please send particulars to: mailbox@6mmBR.com . Please put "Forum Classified Issue" in the title of the message so it gets past the spam filter.,We receive 100s of emails every day.)

Good idea. I would also contact the Postmaster General and complain about mail fraud. That is what I did with a major supplier of AR lowers that upped the price after I send the money. Result: I got the lowers at the original price.

I wish this site made it a requirement to post your real name and actual address, not P.O.)if you sell items on this site.

Steve, as stated above, sellers ARE required to disclose their name and address on request from a potential buyer.

People should use their good judgement. It's only common sense that, if a seller will not disclose his real name and address, you should walk away... and not send money to "Mr. X" at a post office box. I don't believe there has yet been a dispute where moneys were sent to a seller who had not disclosed his name.

Some people only sell one or two items a year in the classifieds. For privacy and security reasons I can understand why many forum members would not want their full contact information displayed in their profile all year long.

As noted... ask the seller for his NAME, Address, and phone number. If he/she says no, JUST DON'T BUY.

We are BIG boys . before you buy anythin find out who is HE
other wise you think is a good buy you get f...
there is a lot of honest working people in this forun.

brad6ppc, did you ever receive your barrel from 7mmroland? I hope that you did and everything is squared with him by now.

I had some concerns with him on a purchase of 6.5x47mm dies and brass a couple of months back. I PMd/emailed/called him several times during the transaction with poor response. As with you, the phone number provided was no longer in service. In frustration, I contacted Paul and asked for assistance. I'm a big boy, wasn't asking for my hand to be held, or my money back. I just wanted to see if Paul could get a response from the man. That was a bad day for Paul as he had two other complaints from the Classifieds and Paul posted a scolding message concerning the Classifieds. I took it personally, emailed Paul to the effect saying, "If you are angry with me, don't punish the other members of the board. I will quietly withdraw from the forum and bother you no more." I deleted my few posts and have stayed away. I finally decided that this is a great board, Paul runs a good site, I did Nothing wrong, and I am back. I sit in the back of the class and don't post much anyway.

I did eventually receive the items. A few pieces of brass short of advertised and the expander ball missing from the Redding S FL die. Not as advertised but not a rip-off either.

This was a $200 deal. I have purchased two $3,600 Surgeon tactical rifles, two $2,500 Schmidt & Bender scopes, as well as many other items from members of Snipers Hide without a single problem. I have sold many expensive items there as well. My frustration was with the lack of communications from 7mmRoland.
I know there are many honest members on this board as well, but the couple of non-responsive people that I have dealt with has taken the joy out of making a deal on this board for me.

Frankly, no one wants to be ripped off. One of the reasons for good, clear communications is to allay those fears. When you Do think that you have been taken, you have some horrible thoughts about retribution but then realize that the stolen $$ or items are not worth serving prison time and losing your rights to own firearms. If you don't act, you are left with the sick, helpless feeling of, "I've been had." Neither are acceptable options.

Best of luck on future deals, brad6ppc.

While a "Bad Boys" list has many problems, why not have a "Good Guys" list instead? This is done on Sniper's Hide, where problems arise from selling items just as they do here. However, it's hard to search the Good Guys list on SH and that would be a potential improvement.

I agree with some previous suggestions and more:

* Get all the information you might need about the seller and the item you are buying before sending any money. Some disputes are about the condition of the item for sale or other specifics. Ask alot of questions if you need to and get the seller to send images if you're still not certain of the item's condition.

* Contact the seller by 'phone before sending any money, especially if there is a "substantial" amount involved. "Substantial" means you cannot afford to lose it. I've often found that you can judge a person by how they talk on the phone. Do they seem open and inviting to questions or cagey and unresponsive?

* Check how long the seller has been a forum member and whether he/she posts on subjects other than simply to sell items. Look on other shooting forums for people with the same/similar screen name and check them out there too.

* Finally, if you have any remaining doubts then cancel your offer to buy.

We DO have a Good Guys's List. Forum members can add their nominations to the thread. The moderator then regularly edits the first post in the Good Guys' list thread to include all the names. The list appears in both our Classified forums:

Let me state my case clear and emphatically. Anyone who deceives and receives money for a promised item has committed a crime and needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The shooting community has too many good and honest people to allow a few scum bags to ruin it. If you know of anyone pulling this kind of crap or are the victim of a scam, do not hesitate to notify the authorities. If the person is out of state, the FBI may get involved. Do not spare these swine any slack!
