Dirty barrel 308

I'm shooting a 308 palma rifle with moly bullets, so I don't clean as much as others, about every 250 rounds. Last match I shot my high score at 1K and demolished my x count personal best. Yesterday I shot my local club's practice day, shot it with a bipod and scope just to zero in my new sightron, I was seeing drastic flyers, would shoot 2-3x's in a row then throw a 5 at 7 o'clock. I'm certain it's not the shooter because I had a few other shooters shoot and they had the same result. This load held a half moa elevation at 1k, my round count since cleaning is 286, could a dirty barrel kill my accuracy that bad?

Absolutely! You need to scrub the barrel with butches or kroil to get all the build up off the barrels surface. Then you should use something like iosso to really get rid of the build up of moly.Do you coat your bullets or do you use factory moly bullets. If they are factory then you probably have baked on moly in the groove's.After the Iosso then soak it over night with Butch's or whatever you have and brush the bore real good without harming the crown and patch it dry.Go out and give it a try.I disagree about cleaning every 250 rounds.A clean gun is a happy gun.You might have a carbon ring just ahead of the neck where there is clearance for brass flow and work the Iosso or jb bore compound and get that leade cleaned up.

I am soaking as we speak in butches boreshine. These are my coated bullets w carnauba wax as well. I never had a problem with my 6BR with that routine but this 308 is proving different. Now is the scrubbing going to remove the moly to a point were it will take 10-15 fowlers to get the barrel re-coated?

I know with my 308 barrel that is Melonited when accuracy starts to drop off ( usually after 100 rounds ) I use a bronze bristle brush and scrub the throat area to get rid of the carbon ring that builds up and you will see the black that comes out on the next 2 patches. Then a couple patches of Boer Tech thru the bore and accuracy comes back.

Cody,
If I might suggest, Butch's is great for regular cleaning, but get a jar of JB's Bore Paste for use every 250 - 300 rds down the tube. JB's works good for the heavier duty job. Presoaking with Butch's is good, but then you need to use JB's and let it sit and soak for a while (I usually let it sit for 20 -30 minutes) and then f/u with Butch's to finish off the cleaning process.
