Dillon Square Deal B

Will extruded short cut powders dispense well from a Dillon SDB? Specifically I am interested in Vihtavuori N330.

Dillion SDB uses the powder dispenser with a sliding bar mechanism to properly meter the powder. Extruded powders do not work well with this sliding bar design as they tend to get the kernels of powder stuck as the mechanism closes & jam up the operation.

I never use extruded powder in any of my Dillon reloading presses for this reason. If I have to use extruded powder of any type, a rotary drum type of powder measure works best. Ball & flake powders work best in the Dillon powder measures.

Back when loading large amounts of 30.06 for the 1919a4's, the slow method of using an older RL-450 Dillon press & a RCBS rotary powder measure & hand filling each cartridge in a loading block worked well. It would have been much easier if the extruded powders fed thru the Dillon powder measure, but it didn't work that way.

All Ive ever loaded with mine is winchester 231 . Got a 550 on 223 run cfe 223 thru it. I know thats no help but thats my experience with dillon loaders. Ball powder. Doug

Even if you can keep the powered slider bar from jamming the measures will not be very accurate. This is true for a drum type power drop as well. If you are less concerned about being off by a grain or 2 you can remove the power die on other Dillon presses and use a Lee with their drum setup. However I don't think Lee dies will work with Square Deal. Does the press use standard die?

Using 8208 throuh a Dillon 550B with the powder die for 223, I get +/- .15 grain variation for the most part. 1 out of 20/25 charges is off by +/- .2 grain

8208 is fairly short cut.
