Dillon RL-450

I have an option to buy the Dillon RL-450. They are thinking around $150, I was thinking $100.

What would I need to purchase to make it compatible with .223 and .308 and is it worth it?

Thanks

Dies and a pair of shell plates, and you're good to go. Yes, definately worth it. Still have a 450 around, and still use it despite having a 550 as well. Just not as convenient or quick to change calibers, but if you're going to be loading a lot of one caliber, they're great. I tend to use mine with a Redding powder measure instead of the Dillon, at least for rifle cartridges. There's an adapter for this which you'll find in the Dillon catalolg. Cheap, and well worth it since it allows better charge uniformity.

I had a Dillon 450 in the mid 80's, when I had limited time for reloading 45ACP. Excellent tool with complete, no questions asked factory support. If you get it, just start out slow & careful, and forget about "how many rounds can I make in an hour"?

As you become more familiar with it, your speed will naturally increase & you will have a better understanding of the potential pitfalls if not paying attention.

I still have and use my 450 #4024, purchased in the early eighties. It is a great press and will last almost forever. As Kevin noted, changing cartridges requires some fiddling but only takes about 15 minutes. All of the Dillon machines are well constructed, easy to use and carry a lifetime defect warranty. About ten years ago, I lost one of the brass case retaining buttons and called Dillon to order a replacement. They took my address and told me there would be no charge. Good folks who support their products.

There is only one reason to own a 450 dillion... ;) It is because you can't afford a 550 or a 650....or a 1050 .....Probably not the best maching to reload for bench shooting but they make nice ammo and they last forever....not to mention the best customer service you can imagine.
