Dillon Dterminator scale trickling

Howdy,

Anybody using a dillon scale to trickle up charges? Adding a few tenths of a grain dosen't cause any change until it jumps .2 to .5 grains. I'm charging a 6brx with varget.

This scale appears to be useless for tricking up charges to it's resolution of +/- .1gr. The manufacturer tells me others are able to use it for this.

I've also had the same problem with the competitive edge dynamics pocket scale.

Anyone out there have success using this scale for exact charge weights?

thanks, rick.

I did an intresting comperison in January with my reloading Equipment. I had a chance to go to Ft Benning & do some reloading at the R&D shop. I took along my Lyman 1200 DPS thower & Harrel BR Powder thrower & the Ole Dillion DTerminator.

I set the 1200 DPS up & droped charges & then it went right onto the Dillion, from there it went straight to one of there $4000.00 Lab scales. I was very pleased with the accuaracy of the Dillion. The 1200 DPS showed very consistant results also.

Buuuuut the big down fall is that I Can not trickel powder with this scale either!!! Mine does the same thing yours does. I add a few cernals of X brand powder & nothing happens, so a couple of more then all of a sudden the sleeping giant a waikens & your .5 over your target weight. I have found it it IS very accurate if I dump the full charge in at once & if its right not right then just toss it back. That seems to be faster anyway. At one time I had Two 1200 DPS set up at one time & that was very fast & very accurate. Hit the dispense button & while # 1 was dropping powder #2 was ready. From there straight to the Dillion for the double checking that My internal voices tell me I HAVE to do.

I got to play with the MX 123 also while I was there. Seems that scale is more suited to trickling. But Make sure your room is air tight. Moving my hand past the Lab scales make them go from zero to XX grains with the air current.

I hope this helps you. I found I can really trust my DTerminator but I just cant trickel powder. I still thinks its a good buy for the way I use it.

Lynman 1200 DPS also gets the thumbs up. never more than .1grains from the target charge.

I've experienced the same thing with my Dterminator, which I've been using for 4 years now.

I've found that it doesn't like to register very small increments of added powder. There are two ways around it, in my experience.

Set your measure about a full grain less than your desired charge, throw it, then dump it in the pan. Let the scale settle, then add the last grain rather quickly from the trickler. For some reason, when adding a substantial amount of powder fast, the scale seems to respond better.

Nowadays, I don't trickle anything. When using coarse grained stuff like Varget or RL22, I set the powder measure as closely to the target charge weight as I can get it. When it's throwing 3/5 charges to my desired weight, that's close enough. I throw the charge directly into the pan, then set it on the scale. If it's good, I funnel it into the case. If not, I dump it back into the hopper, and repeat the process. Even if only 2/5 charges throw correctly, it's still a lot faster than trickling with a "sticky" scale.

Thanks guys,

It looks like I'm having the same problems too. Any one have any experience with the acculab scale sinclair sells?
