Dillon 550 forum ?

I've been running a 550B since the late 80's. I just received my 3rd powder measure,as I had worn out the first two. It looks like there are several of us here that can help you.

On your 3rd Powder measure, Did Dillon replace it under their warranty?

GetReal good morning I have loaded on a 550B since late 80’s-Early 90’s, 99% rifle.

It’s possible to load very high quality rifle ammo with the 550 inspecting every step, takes the speed out of the reloading process.
Bulk ammo that is using a fine powder such as W748 for a .223 can be done much faster.

Most pistol shooter move on to the 650-750 and up for the auto index and speed, but usually keep their 550 to load rifle, I finally bought a single stage press last year but my Dillon isn’t going anywhere:)

Posted this before but I have two 550's on the bench and love em. Got both because I'm to darn lazy to switch between small and large primers! All I load on mine is pistol and they keep up with my needs fine. Had one since the first 550's came out, the others a b model and have been trouble free.

I started with the RL450 back in 1984 & in 2007 added the 650 to the bench in .223/5.56 caliber. The 550 was just an upgrade of my old RL450, so I never bought a 550. The RL 450 was upgraded once to a more usable machine.

Just this last week, the 650 has had the case feeder added to it after all these years & the 9mm conversion kit & powder measure. The old body got tired of added cases by hand & put out the bucks for assistance.

Both presses do what I need & the $$$ are not there to add more equipment to the bench.

Loading 300 Hamr... Which is basically a semi auto 30-30 Winchester.

Just looking for misc tips and tricks for the 550.

My experience with a 550B started when I purchased one in the early 90s. They are a great little press, although the priming system is a little finicky.

Similar to padom, I reload my rifle ammo in two separate operations. Sizing and decapping happen in the first operation. I use a Redding instant indicator to insure the brass has been sized correctly. That brass is then measured for case length, trimmed if necessary, and tumbled to remove the case lube. The second operation is primer seating, powder- either with the Dillon measure or an offline measure for accuracy with a funnel on station 2, and bullet seating.

On the primer mechanism there are several adjustments to keep it working properly. Keep the little slide, primer cup, and the area that it rides on clean. Also, make sure you have the stop underneath the slide adjusted correctly. The paper clip looking spring adjustment is another to insure the case is held properly in the shellplate.
