Dillon 1050 - Upgrade/Replacement Shell Plate

I need a new shell plates (#3 & #5) for a Dillon 1050. I know that there has been some innovation in design (shell cup geometry and metallurgy) beyond Dillon's factory shell plate. Whose product should I be looking at?

I realize there may be some difficulty (backorder or out of stock) purchasing anything, but I may as well get in the line once I identify which shell plate to buy

Thanks

I don't see the need to go after market unless you are automated.

I've had my 1050 (not automated) since 2006 and use the Dillon plates.

I tried two of the FW Arms shellplates for my 1100/1050s. They worked well but it isnt like they were a complete gamechanger. They only get used on my 1100 with an autodrive.

The new shellplates coming out of Dillon are much better than the ones that came out 20-25 years ago. Much beefier and not as brittle.

Right now the big delay at Dillon is anything carbide. Most all else ships pretty fast.

I tried an after market shell plate on my automated 1050 and it was too tight for 38 super, even with appropriate locator pins not allowing the shell to insert far enough. Of course the mfr said it was in spec.

The Dillon plates have been fine for me as long as I set up the press correctly. :D

I would agree with this 100% - with correctly being the operative word. There's a YT video where a guy shows exactly how to set up the shell plate carrier, so that it glides smooth & free every time. If I can find it again, I'll put it here for reference. It fixed quite a few non-issues that I thought I was experiencing.

This solves a common issue for most folks:
