Different types of competitions

Can someone briefly explain, or point to a link that explains, the various types of competitions? I read many articles here on 6mmBR that talk about "F-Class" or "Varmint For Score" or "Cross Course" and the various types of scoring methods, and I'd really like to understand what they are talking about.

Thanks

F-class and cross the course scoring and rules are on the NRA website read up on it and get out to a local match and ask questions

Yah, it can be confusing when you're faced with sorting out all the different disciplines we've carved competitive shooting into.

280man's correct about where the NRA gets involved, but there's more out there for you to digest as you expand your knowledge.

For benchrest, what it says: shot off benches at distances out to 1000 yards - most are 100 to 200 yards though - and can be either for group or for score; VFS is one of the variants) you can look over or join up at:

F-Class is a variant of Long Range competition. More to be found here:

CC,or Across the Course) is "position shooting" where matches are shot over distances from 200 to 600 yards from standing, offhand), sitting or kneeling, and prone as the distances increase. Both single-round,offhand and 600-yard prone) and rapid fire,10-shot strings shot in a minute, with a mandatory reload) are involved. Typical matches are 50 round or 80 round, where 10 or 20 shots are fired at the shorter ranges with 20 shot at 600. There are reduced matches also, shot on appropriately reduced size targets at from 100 to 300 yards.

All of these forums can provide answers to the questions you have now, and those you'll have after you find answers to the first.

Get out and participate in local matches & you'll meet folks who'll be happy to answer questions & show you what the sport's about.
