Differences in the vmax bullets….

Is there. Difference between the .22 cal 50grn Vmax and the 53grn vmax and the 55grn Vmax?

here is why I ask my LGS has all three on the shelf but the pricing is odd to me…
50vmax = $23.95
53vmax = $19.95
55vmax = $24.95

am I missing something?
I should add this is not a sale price it’s everyday pricing……

I'm in complete agreement with BC'z. For the price, grab as many 53s as you can carry. That's a pretty friendly price. IMO, the 53 gr. V-Max is the best general purpose light weight .224 bullet available.

As for the differences, the 55 gr. is a flat base bullet. The 50 gr. and 53 gr. are boat tail bullets. The 53 has the best BC of the three, and by a significant margin.

Pricing aside, I have found there is a difference in performance in my bolt rifles.

For some reason which I cannot explain, in my 12" twist varmint rifles, I cannot get the 50 Vmax's to shoot well whereas the Nosler 50 BT's shoot extremely well, both boat tail but different ogive designs, Hornady, a secant ogive, Nosler a tangential ogive. However, the 55 flat base Vmax's shoot well, in the 1/2 moa range.

While I haven't tried the 53 Vmax's, which have a positive reputation for faster twist 223's, the 60 Vmax's shoot extremely well in all my Tikka's 8" twist 223 Rem's.

Don't give it any though... just get the 53 V-max and RUN !

If by any chance the 53 gr HP ( # 2250 ) are on the shelf, I would get them over any boat tail V-max... they are extremely accurate.

No - no - no! Ignore the 53-grain VMax bullets! I'm doing my best to protect you all by buying as many as I can! ;)

1 bullet I found that works in ALL of 223/5.56 rifles is the Sierra 52 gr MatchKing ( # 1410 ) with 26.5 - 26.6 gr of Win-748.
The 53 gr Sierra HP MK ( # 1400 ) is just as accurate, but I prefer the little boat-tail of the 52 gr for ease of loading.

When i first was looking at the 53 vmax i found 500 of the 50vmax for $60. I could not pass it up so i got the 50s and have just stuck with them. I just bought 1k more about a month ago for $172 so im good for awhile
