Differences going from conventional stock to chassis system?

So... I've got a bunch of conventional (laminate or fiberglass, with Devcon or Steelbed + pillars) stocks, and one chassis system (McRee). I've been wanting to use the chassis system to swap a few barrelled actions into/out of... one in particular, for trouble-shooting some gremlins that I can't seem to hunt down and kill as of yet.

If you work up an accurate load with a given barrelled action, will it need significant re-development to work when going from a conventionally stocked setup to a chassis system and back?

imo shouldnt be too much difference as long as nothing is touching the barrel in either one of the stocks...if there is a change it should be minimal

With correct bedding I would think there should be little difference. Stock design will influence how the system handles recoil; from bags, bipod, position, etc. with associated shot dispersion.

Mmmm... I was more thinking in terms of harmonics, that a given load in a given barrel might respond differently when bolted to a chassis than when bedded in a regular stock. Basically looking at developing a load for a given barrel mounted to a chassis system (as a back-up gun), and wanting that load to still be as close to optimal when/if it comes time to take that barrel and screw it on my main comp gun. Some tweaking/tuning I'm okay with; I'd just rather not have to start over from scratch.

Howdy !

If your chassis system' rifle & barrel block can allow for re-positioning of the barrelled-action ( fore & aft ); you should have latitiude too " tune-out" most of the harmonic differences mentioned.

At least, that how it worked out w/ my rifle.
