Difference between...

Maybe a dumb question, but what is the difference between Any sight/any rifle and F-Open matches? Are the terms interchangeble?

The basic difference is any is with a sling only.

F-open is supported. Usually a 'bench rest' , sometimes bipod.

F-class is F-open-fully rested front/bag rear, open caliber, 22lbs), F-TR-Bipod front/bag rear, restricted to .308,.223, 18lbs. Any/any is subset of Prone (sling) as mentioned.

All are shot from the prone position and usually a mix in most matches but scored separately. Prone and F-class use different size scoring rings.

Ok- why I ask, is the guy I shot with at Pt Malabar in Feb on Sunday, on the same target, was scored as Any/any on the posting. He definitely did not have a sling, although there were some sling shooters at the other end of the line. Forgot what caliber, but it was def off a bipod, and he used a scope... Just a mistake on the scoresheet?

Was it an AR?

AR-Tactical uses a folding bipod and limited power scope.
That class uses the sling(not f-class) target and sometimes there isn't a proper check box for it.

Nope- bolt action- pretty sure it was a .308, and would have thought that would have put him in FTR

Some ranges may have an unofficial class for such a rifle. At our range it is called "Field Precision Rifle" and we hold a separate match day for that program. However, I shot a 'FPR class' rifle (6.5 Creedmoor off a Harris bipod) during F-class matches and I was classed in F-open. It is good to allow a shooter to 'shoot what he has' in local matches, if safe, to encourage more participation.

You are correct, bolt-gun, bipod and 308 should officially be ftr.
Scoring was not right, then.

They are on e-targets?
If the etarget was set on 'any' the guy may have shot the wrong target also.
At least for the one's I shot on.

Malabar's programs and results look pretty well organized. Sounds like a one-off mistake.
