difference between v-max blue and the red?

I was wandering if anyone knows if there is anydifference in the blue tipped v-max bullets and the red? I purchased a box of fiocchi extrema 223 bullets loaded with 40 grain v-max bullets in blue. They shot great out of my m77(.5"). So i purchased hornadys 40 grain v-max bullets with the red tip and loaded up 100 rounds with varying lengths right around the coal that was reccomended for these. Best i got was 1.25". After talking to my local gun smith he said that usually when a gun will only shoot a specific bullet it is most likely a crown issue and i may end up having to shoot a flat base bullet. So im trying to find out if the blue tipped v-max could have possibly been flat based. The place i purchased them no longer carrys them and i can't find them to pull a bullet to check. Thanks, Nick.

Don't know the answer to your question but I bought some blems from midway a while back and they did not specify the manufacture but what was pictured was a bullet with a red tip that led me to think it was a v-max but when they arrived they had a blue tip .

The only time I have seen blue tipped vmax bullets have only been on factory ammo from different MFGs.
It may just be available to those ammo companies for loaded ammo.
I do not know if they are FB or BT myself.

I had basically the same experience with the Fiocchi ammo. Bought a few boxes of the 40gr stuff at the local shop when it was on sale, super-cheap, just for "plinking." It shot amazingly well in my R700VS, groups in the .3's-.4's. I tried replicating the load with "good" Lapua brass, same bullet, (in red tip) speeds, COAL, and got nowhere. I tried reloading the Fiocchi brass, which is no easy feat because the flash holes are so off-centered and oblong they break decapping pins. Never got those to shoot either. Quite baffling. I hate it when "factory junk" outshoots your best attempt at handloads, LOL.
