Difference between the 22 cheetah and the 22 cheetah mark 11

CHeetas.jpg (Left to Right: 22-243 Win., 22-243 Win. Ack. Imp., 22 Rayhill Rocket, 22 CHeetah MK II, CHeetah MK I)

My understanding is the following. The major difference between the 22 CHeetah MK I and its predecessors are the use of the more uniform BR case, blown out 40° shoulder and shorter neck. It also has a greater powder capacity than any of the older versions. There are actually two case types, the MKI with a 40° shoulder and the MKII with the original 28° shoulder. The 22 CHeetah was developed by Jim Carmichel, shooting editor of Outdoor Life magazine and Fred Huntington of RCBS. It appears to have originated in the late 1970's. In the May 1984 Outdoor Life issue, Carmichel's first article about the CHeetah appeared. The cartridge is essentially a full-length Remington 308 BR case, with a smaller primer pocket, necked down to 22 caliber, but with the shoulder moved forward. What you end up with is a variation of the 308 Win. necked down to 22, but using a special match case. This was not exactly new, because there are in existence several slightly different versions made by necking the 243 Win. case down. And, these date back to the early 1960's. However, the 22 CHeetah is an original with regard to the 308 BR case and its smaller rifle primer pocket.

NOTE that the original Remington URBR cases have a small primer pocket but a HUGE flashhole..... they did not and DO NOT act like modern Lapua small primer cases..... in many ways.

They were an abject failure.

If you want URBR cases I'll happily sell you some.

I bet Butch Lambert still has some he'd love to get rid of too....

I had a Cheetah I, small primer. My load was 42g of IMr 4064 with a 52g sierra BTHP, match. Velocity was great, accuracy was fantastic. I had hang fires with 4064 and the 52's, and this is really un nerving when the gun goes off as you take your face off the stock, reaching for the bolt handle. That barrel had to go.

Cases were no good, accuracy node opened up pockets resulting in short case life. WE kill a lot of ground squirrels and crows in the almond orchards, barrel life was in the 1500 round area, and we shot the barrel hot. Typical day was 100 rounds of shooting.

I went to a 22/250 AI next, zero freebore, 12T, 27" barrel, 55's at 4050 was excellent to say the least. It took a slight adjustment as the Cheetah velocity was 4200.

Also had a shilen 14T, 29" with zero freebore in 22/250 and shot the 50's at 3900, with 1/2" groups at 200 yards.

I just got a 22 middlstead reamer and dies, cci 450 and wolf mag primer has solved ignition issues on using Palma brass...we will play.

Picked up my Cheetah today 40 Degree shoulder and 50 + rounds of loaded ammo. They are 243 Win cases only 8 fire formed, I am guessing just load the 243 and shoot them to FF. Any suggestions

Congrats on your new acquisition. I'm not personally familiar with reloading or shooting the 22 CHeetah. I'm also assuming your 243 Win. brass has been necked down to .224 caliber from .243? Here's some more useful info. See member, Fredo's, post #5:
