Die questions/options?

I am currently using Redding FL Die with expander. I am debating on going with a Redding Body die and either a Lee Collet Die or Sinclair Expander Mandrel ... maybe even all 3 will be needed?

What are your thoughts on this? I am currently going to purchase a Sinclair Expander Mandrel for new brass anyway.

I'm new, so take it easy on me. LOL

Steve

Unless you want to go with an expensive custom die the Body die /Lee collet die is hard to beat. Even with no neck prep your case neck run-out #'s will be good. The Sinclair expander die is also good but unless you get your sizing die neck honed out you will probably be oversizing your case neck. Not so with the Lee collet die.

A Redding body die didn’t work for me for a 220 Swift.

I’ve gotten best results with a Redding FL bushing die for several cartridges.
Easy to adjust shoulder bump and neck tension. I don’t use an expander button on the deprimer.

I'd stick with your current FL die, without the expander ball and size the neck with a Lee collet die.
Be sure to read John Valentine's article, on how to set up the collet die in your press.

Ok , Steve . Your new to this . New to what discipline ? PRS , F-Class , Bench Rest ? Help a brother out here ...Different disciplines have different "standard / Non-standard " loading practices . As a F-TR shooter , I use a Redding F/L Bushing die , with the expander removed , and a Sinclair Expander Die to achieve my desired neck interference ( tension ) . BR shooters have different practices , so a little more info would help us , help you .

Sorry D-4297

I am loading for hunting purposes. I am looking for the best possible accuracy, however, not chasing .1’s or anything either.

Thanks
Steve

Whatever game you're chasing, my recommendation is solid. It's a 2 step process, but it works very well for my 6mm Remington hunting gun.

For about a dozen guns now I've been using body dies (some custom), Sinclair expander mandrels, and Wilson bushing NS.

And if there was an olympic reloading category for low TIR, I'm confident in my contention for gold.:)
I adjust neck tension through sizing length. You cant do that on the fly with a collet.

If you are not neck turning, the combination you suggest of a Redding Body die and Lee Collet die will give very good results and long case life. I used this technique for my 6BR's until the necks got too thick and had to get into neck turning
