Die oversizing neck

I had this with a set of RCBS dies for straight 284 Win.
I always thought that the force was a little excessive to seat a bullet.
When I went to change to a different bullet, backing out the seater stem, showed a large buldge in the neck at the base of the bullet. Even with the proper sized expander.
Called RCBS, and was essentially told to buy the right size die. Even though I sent pictures to them showing 284 Win.

So I bought the right sized die from Forrester.

Sorry if this has been covered before. I did a subject search and didn't see it.

Is there any practical way to open up the neck of a FL sizing die that's oversizing in the neck area? I've a lathe and *some* skill, but I can't conceive anything practical.

The reason I'm asking is I'd prefer to not oversize the neck, then pull it back out with an expander for multiple reasons.

Thanks for looking.
If you end up just buying a different die, maybe the one you have would be good to practice on.

Could you use your lathe to create suitable tooling and make your own hone? I realize 'the juice might not be worth the squeeze'

I ask because I see myself in your position in a few years when I get to the point and buy my first lathe.

Easist way would be to buy a bushing die and the bushing size you want the neck to be. Less time involved and money this way, rather than honing/alternating your present FL die.

Rick Averill's excellent tutorial that Boyd linked is exactly the way to use a barrel lap on a die. Forum member @jepp2 has also posted his method of using the barrel laps on dies.

I've not had any scratching issues when opening dies with a carbide reamer and polishing the neck area afterward. I did this one recently for a 30 Major where the shooter wanted a non bushing. .323 neck dimension die. Two reamers were used and the T.I.R. after sizing is half a thou. (.0005).
