Diameter Cleaning Rod for 270 Win ?

I have a new 270 Win in stainless and I want to purchase the correct diameter cleaning rod. I will purchase a bore guide (suggestions welcome as I have already read a lot, thinking Possum Hollow or Mike Lucas).

I have used coated Dewey in the past with other guns and have had good luck (but suggestions again welcome).

Should I purchase the 27 Cal. & Up or should I go smaller (.22-.26)?

Many thanks for any input your can give me.

Depends on what cleaing rod your are going to use. My favorite is the Montana X-treme. These are the dimensions for their rods:
  • 22 to 264 Caliber - Red - Rod Diameter: .1875" 270 to 50 Caliber - Blue - Rod Diameter: .250"

To be safe, I would use a .22 to .24 diameter rod for the .270. Although, as you can see, the 270 rod above leaves you a 20 thou. claerance.

Mike Lucas for the rod guide, and let him know the rod diameter so he can make the insert for that size.

As for rods, I like BoreTech. Great handles and bearings. Their rod for 6mm-270 is .226 in diameter.
