Devcon steel or titanium putty?

What's the reasoning behind nobody using Devcon titanium putty and always using steel putty? Is it softer? Is it more prone to shrinking? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Cost mostly. The steel works fine. Both are great products. The only real advantage titanium has over steel is it will not rust. The only time I have seen the steel rust is when I was shooting Camp Perry in the rain and I did not want to pull the M-14 action from the stock during service rifle week,no sighters). After the President’s 100 and the leg match I did see some rust on the bedding itself.

Titanium is also harder on carbide burrs and tooling. According to the spec it does resist solves better than steel. It also has a higher compression strength, but in the real world I do not see a difference. If it was the same cost I would use it more but it is three times the cost I cannot justify it. Through the years I have used 4 pounds of titanium bedding rifles. Steel I have used probably ten times that amount.

If rust is your only issue, there's also Stainless Steel version for lower cost. But by all means, go for the titanium if cost isn't a factor. I'd like Titanium too, but availability and cost are not favoring it...
