Devcon 10610 vs 10110

Used the search function. Not coming up with much. I have been using devcon 10110 plastic steel for years for bedding.
10610 aluminum putty is so much easier and faster for me to order and have the same day.
Anyone have any experience with 10610 vs 10110?

Thanks guys
Kevin

I have used the aluminum putty for years with excellent results. I too have the plastic steel but you will find that the aluminum putty is not as 'gritty' and easier to work with. Use with confidence.

Thanks Kris. Never had a hard time working with the 10110. Glad to hear you've had good success with the aluminum. I haven't had the time to sit down and compare msds. It's just so darn easy to click on amazon and have it delivered that day or the next. Just want to make sure it will turn out as quality of a job as 10110.

Yes, I've used 10610 for AR repairs and having it around have used it for a couple of beddings and various other misc repairs. Good hard set. Machinable. No issues. I guess that applies to all devcon products. I now have a supply of the titanium putty so I'll be using it for about everything. I haven't used 10110. --Jerry

Thanks Carlsbad. I think your right. I'm sure for the purpose of bedding, any of the steel, alum., or to titanium devcon products will do.

You're right. I checked and the aluminum version is available via Amazon Prime, but the steel (10110) is not. It's also interesting to note that the steel version costs twenty bucks less; $32 vs $52. So if you don't mind waiting a bit longer, you can save $20.

I recently ordered some 10110 via Amazon and it took only a few days to arrive. I don't remember how long for sure, but I would guess about 4 days.

I noticed that as well. It really all comes down to when I need it. I hate keeping a lot of it on the shelf. Sometimes $20 is worth it if I need it quick. Otherwise, I don't mind waiting. Just wanted to make sure they both produce a quality job equally.

Although.. the shipping is 6.65$ for the steel. So it's almost $40. You pay $10 to have the alum. 1 day.

Devcon 10110 ships for free with Amazon Prime, which is one of the best things I ever bought. You choke a bit on the yearly fee, but you soon get over that when you find yourself shopping for all sorts of stuff because you get it free in 2 days in almost every instance. I often buy things for less than ten bucks that I would normally buy at Lowes or some other local outlet. A week doesn't go by without me buying several items including a recent purchase of a vegetable steamer basket for seven bucks, something I would NEVER have bought by mail order in the past.

Plus, with Amazon Prime you get access to Amazon Video which is very good and has some unique shows like the new version of Top Gear called The Grand Tour.

If you don't have Amazon Prime, give it a try. I think it's great.

Oh I don't have Amazon prime......my wife does. It's a blessing and a curse.

It shrinks a tad more than the steel, but for our porposes, and any I can imagine...it should be fine for bedding. I've used a bunch of the steel and a little of the titanium. Both are very good. I didn't know the aluminum putty flowed differently than the steel. For that reason alone, it may well be worth me trying it, too.

That was my thought as well. I like the steel. Haven't tried the titanium and doubt it's worth the cost unless you like warm fuzzy feelings. I do wish the steel flowed just a touch easier and if the alum. does, then I've got a winner.

A friend of mine is using apoxie sculpt with ground fibers in it. It's used in taxidermy. I've seen a couple of his jobs that were done with it and try turned out great. Thinking about trying it myself. It's about half price of Devcon too.

I've used 10110 for 15 years or so and never had a need to try any others untill last year when I was bumping my head against the max weight limit for F/TR and the healthy layer of bedding that I prefer was an area for weight savings. So I tried 10610. The differences I noticed we're that the aggregate in 10610 was noticeably more fine. This made it a bit easier to mix and to manipulate into recesses in the uncured state. Then I noticed it reached a full cure state more quickly. Just speculation, but maybe the easier mixing results in a more thorough mixing? I've used 10610 for 4 jobs now and each has resulted in a competitive target rifle that's shot as well if not better than any others I've ever built.

Best,
ian
