Devcon 10100 Plastic Steel Putty

You may be able to find it locally. I was given 2 lbs by my employer as the exp date was coming up and they were replacing it.

Dang, look around and price check, that is a good price! I might just buy a few of them.

“10110” is the Devcon ‘part number’ for a one pound kit/package of their ~ Plastic Steel Putty, and only one of many different Devcon offerings. Google it for a link to the manufacturer’s website and a look see at what all’s available and the differences, some are significant, between ‘em.

Well, I just ordered some 10100 from Amazon. This will be my first bedding job and honestly, I got a little bit of the jitters. Been on You tube watching videos on bedding. So confusing. Some guys tighten down the action on the stock all the way. Others say to just tighten the screws until you feel a little tension, another guy said he used surgical tubing. I also read an old article were Richard Franklin said he used black electrical tape to hold things together. Not much info out there on skim bedding a stock with aluminum block. Also, I read that it's best to leave the stock untouched at the very rear of the tang and to wrap some tape on the barrel about 1"-2" from the end of the stock. This would allow the action to be stress free. So, here I sit. Sure wish there were videos on this forum on bedding for us new guys concerning bedding.

you want a zero stress bedding, do not tighten the screws. I don't use anything but the weight of the action. There used to be a really good thread with lots of pictures on Snipers Hide to show how to do it.'

I find it a lot easier to do if I'm bedding and installing pillars at the same time vs bedding with the pillars already installed.

Be sure you have a box of Q-tips, a roll of paper towels and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol. No matter how careful you are you will get it on stuff you don't want it on, clean it off before it hardens (you don't have to get in a rush)

Anyone with some reasonable handy skills can bed an action. Don't get too caught up on all the different flavors. All I know, and have done is followed the Richard Franklin videos or Suarez Tactical's videos (Suarez is on you tube). They both do it about the same way. Use lots of wax as a release agent. If you think you put enough wax on, put more on. NEVER clamp the receiver down with clamps. Use the action screws. This will give you the best outcome. Tighten until you can't turn the screw and epoxy stops squeezing out the top. Use lots of blue masking tape, pipe tape on the barrel to mask everything off you don't want the Devcon to go. Keep paper towels, q-tips and acetone at the ready. Anything that comes out is easily cleaned up with Acetone and there is no need for panic because it does not set up for a long time.

Post your outcome when you're done. It will go great.

I don't like to skim bed with Devcon steel filled epoxy. I have better luck using Marine tex for skim bedding. I do keep the Devcon for most bedding jobs where it is at least 1/8" thick.
