Deltronic pins

Im just about to start out with my own Smith shop and I think its going to take forever to get tooled up.Anyway Im here in Ireland and a long way from America where all of everything must come from in this fascinating world of smithing. You guys are so lucky really, make a call and next day delivery with most stuff. Here in the emerald Isle it takes forever along with hidden taxes and duty not to mention endless paperwork and to top it off, theres things we cant even get sent to us at all,Sprays airosols bluing equipment, the list goes on.At the moment Im in the process of ordering some Deltronic pins which I plan to use for barrell setup and if some of you greats could advise me on a list of which sizes I should be looking for it would be a great help.Im going to be barrelling the following calibres. .170rem,.22,220swift,6mmppc,.243,6.5,270,308,.25,300.
Best wishes from Ireland.

If your about to set up shop this tells me that you have most of the machinery to do most jobs. My.02, why don't you make your own? It would prove to be good experience and it would cut costs tremendously. Go's and no go's do not have to be made full length as you can relieve the whole taper. Also you can also make them adjustable. These could be invaluable to you as they only have to be cased and you can do all the work in your own shop. Experience and knowledge are your best tools. Best wishes from the colonies

Not many people have grinders to accurately make gage pins. I have a 25 pin set for each caliber. He could start roughing pins, send out for heat treat, and start grinding. These pins come in .0001 increments. Check with your barrel maker and ask what his nominal bore size is for each caliber. Use that as the middle pin and you would have 12 under and 12 over nominal. It would many many days work that could be spent making money. I get mine at Crescent Tool&Gage in Rowlett, Texas. Ph# 1-972-475-4265. These people are one block from my shop and I have known them for 25 yrs. They will average $125 a 25 pin set. A lot of the gunsmiths buy from them.

Thats a great thought from both of you and something Ive already thought about.I am fairly well st up machinery wise and Im even looking into making my own actions when I get my EDM machine in June.Im hoping after doing all the costings and all the s**te that goes with it,I might be able to produce an action that most of us good guys can afford. This for me would be a dream come true, and its not just a dream,it will happen.Ive had enough of multi millionaire parts makers. Its time now for the real home Smiths to have some fun.Ive spent the last 20+ yrs using CNC,EDM and all sorts of 2,3,4,5,6 and even 7 axises CNC equipment and I cant justify in my mind why it should cost $1000 plus for a simple piece of modern tech. You guys keep an eye on me.Best wishes from Ireland.

It's the man that knows how to make his machines work for him to his best ability that will ensure his success. Most of the gunsmiths today are merely parts replacers and not parts makers. I give you a lot of credit. Go get 'em and lots of luck
