Delrin blocks

Switchbarrel

Gold $$ Contributor
I've tried searching with as many terms as I can think of...

Who sells those delrin blocks that sit in the bag on a front rest and help keep it's shape? Some I've seen have a bubble level in them too...

I never remember to ask at the matches and now I want one.

Thanks.

I've made my own using the Deralin cutting boards in the housewares dept. in stores.

Thanks guys, got one ordered.

Yes, I could've made one myself but it wouldn't have looked nearly as nice. When you factor in your time gathering stuff, gas and the parts themselves, for $30, it's not worth it to me to make it. Plus, I'll have it in days instead of the year it would take me to getting around to it.:)

Thanks again.

Those front bag blocks can also tend to compact the sand and make the front bag very hard. A hard front bag can be a major cause of unexplained vertical on the target.

Something to keep in mind......-Al

Al,
Do you have any hints about how to judge the 'right' hardness for front and rear bags?

Tony, that's not an easy thing to answer. Each setup seems to have it's own preferences. What works for one can at times be 180 degrees from what someone else uses with good results, depending on the exact stock, fore arm side profile, bag material, etc, etc.

I start by having the bags 'way soft and then add a bit at a time. On the front bag, I've found that if I start with a soft enough bag so the gun displaces the sand to one side after 15-20 shots....and then add small amounts until that just stops happening....it's almost perfect. I find it helpful to smush the sand around in the front bag occasionally so it doesn't get compacted and hard.

On the rear bag,s), I use a combination of different fill materials to get a couple different layers and the stability I want along with the softness.

'Bag tuning' is something you'll rarely hear being discussed. ;)
