Delivery Lead Times Hornady

Hi- I am located in Europe ... and have ordered some reloading bullets from Hornady from my local dealer. This is 6 months ago and my dealer tells me there are delivery issues in general due to COVID. Is this true? Thanks

Yes, it is true there are severe shortages and very long waits for components of all kinds.

Partly due to Covid, but mostly due to the elections last November, and now it lingers due to the outcome of those elections. Very difficult to say how long things will take to settle into a steady state.

All the ammunition and components manufacturers are building as fast as possible, but there are shortages of all components.
WHY?
In 2020 8,400,000 new firearms were sold in the USA. If every buyer bought 2 boxes of ammo, that's 840,000,000 rounds of ammo. It's new gun sales that cause ammo shortages. The ammo people are running 24 hours a day, and it is a major capital investment to make new ammo lines, so I suspect the shortages will last a while.

Specifically, what caliber, weight and type of Hornady bullets are you waiting for?

If the bullets were on back-order from the factory when you placed an order with your dealer, then nobody knows when you can expect delivery.

On the other hand, compared to other reloading components, bullets have been much more available with a pretty good selection, especially six months ago. It's hard to imagine any Hornady bullet being required to meet the demands of competition or general shooting, why not order some bullets from another manufacturer, perhaps from another supplier if necessary that are available immediately?

I think that comes to 336,000,000 rounds. If they are still 20 round boxes. I haven't bought any commercial ammo in probably 50 years except. 22rf.

Depends: typical factory centerfire rifle ammo is 20 rounds per box. Typical domestic centerfire handgun defensive ammo is 20 to 25 rounds per box unless you find law enforcement packaging, some imported factory defensive ammo is 50 rounds per box e.g. PPU. Typical factory centerfire handgun FMJ ammo is 50 rounds per box. So there'ssome weighting factor to be applied, noting that there were larger packaging options as well especiallyfor factory handgun FMJ ammo. Since it's all been depleted, it really doesn't matter too much without some sort of dynamic figures on how many of each package size was on retail shelves, warehouses, and factory storage over the past year+.

Darn hard to find here in America.... Everytime a box of Bullets or factory ammo or powder or Primers hits the shelves there gone in a few hours... Not to be political but as long as Biden is in office it will be this way... If he actually does something like gun bans etc it will be this way for a while.... Good luck everyone....

At least we have all Lapua bullets and Vihtavuori powders available here in Finland :) Some Hornady, Sierra and Barnes sometimes but unfortunately we do have satisfy with Lapua.
If I could only find Lapua and VV, I would be content, oh and a few Bergers for special occasions!

For what it's worth, non-shooting stuff I've bought from Eurpoe has taken a month to get across the ocean lately. Things are rough out there!
