Deer & silencer

In my climate, the poncho is perhaps one of the most underrated tools.

What kind of dog is that? It almost looks like a wire haired pointer. Where are you hunting?

John I believe it is a Drathar, They are from Germany I believe. Very smart dogs, in Germany they are a combination type breed trained for retrieving, trailing and pointing.

Wife and I just enjoyed watchng that bullet travel and hit. She also liked you feeding the dog a piece of liver or heart. Good job showing off the experience.

Thanks for that guys. The dog is german wirehaired pointer, also called drahtaar and vorstehr.

He is around 9 years old now and the pro hunter spends a lot of time training his replacement, so he seems very happy to be out with me now. It wasn't that long ago I found him a bit difficult to work with (a bit intense, I'm used to the retired working dogs).

This hunting is on the large economical forests on the borders between Scotland and England - nothing resembling wilderness, but still very deer rich.

Does "economical forests" mean - areas designated for the commercial harvest of lumber?

And, are these areas are open for hunting to to anyone?

What was range to the doe in this video? Looked like 300m-400m judging by the arc of the bullet.

How did you pack the deer out over this type of terrain?

I take the deer in one of my hands and drag it. It's only 30 kgs.

Yes, economic forestry means these forests are grown just like a farmers crop and harvested. They are basically open for anyone with permission/ that pays the hunting fee.

Why is it that every time someone asks you the range of your shots, you don't answer?

Basically I have no wish to wave a red flag for the haters. For those interested, all the details are in the films. I do not wish the hunting films to be debased to an argument about shooting distance. It is about being out hunting with the dog.
