Deer Rifle This Year

Next time you take a pic, clean up and organize your workbench. Jeff Oh, nice gun, good luck.
Yea, I try to keep it all organized and in place but it's hard to do no doubt. However, that is the shop tool box (work bench) as you say. Reloading table on another wall.

Pretty liberal bag limits here, so I usually kill several with either different rifles or a different load. I shot my Sako 30-06 yesterday trying out some StayBall6.5 and the 150 grain ballistic tips. It’s probably good enough to hunt with.

Not to derail another thread here, just wanted to get a discussion going. I like to try different things for deer when I can, but we're only allowed one rifle tag in ND per year (not counting muzzleloader, if you're lucky enough to draw). I grew up shooting a Win. 70 .30-06 with factory ammo, then moved on to reloading cup & core ammo for it. Then one year I decided to try a new-to-me .30-30, then a 6.5 Creedmoor. I made up my mind last night that this year, I'll be trying to take a deer down with my .30-06 using Ranch Dog style bullets I've cast. There is some load development that needs to be done, but I've got two pounds of 5744 to try out that hopefully will be a good match. I'm almost out of IMR-4064, and can't find it anywhere, so that's why I'm trying out the cast bullets. Due to the very wide meplat of the bullet, the rifle only feeds well with two round in the mag, but I'm hoping I'll only need the first one anyway ;). Hoping to get about 2200fps out of the load. The rifle already shoots this bullet well with Unique (just under 1MOA@100 yards, IIRC), but I don't think I've got enough velocity to feel comfortable with it.

What are you all shooting in the deer field this year?
try 2400 but you will probably want a filler
I use dacron ya know the stuff that is literally stuffed in dog toys
20-22 gr seems to be the magic spot
I use 2400 in my 358 win with the dacron filler real good results
As far as a rifle this year I will use my new 6.5 Creedmoor 2020 Waypoint

I was just running my options through my mind during the day today. The last two years I have used my 25–06 that brought back fond childhood memories. This year I believe I am going to use my Cooper model 52 in 6.5 x 284 and my pre-64 model 70 standard grade in 250–3000 Savage. 100 grain Barnes TTSX in the Cooper and Speer 87 grain Hot-cores in the Winchester. I hunt both New York and Pennsylvania so I will get a chance to use both. I like this thread I hope it continues, it’s interesting to see what people like and use.
25-06 is a great caliber for deer I've shot quite a few with one years gone by.one of my friends who i hunt with still uses his and when he shoots one with it.it reminds me how good they are.great on foxes to.

I'm planning on using my Mauser in 284 Win for opening day of deer season this year.

After that, i'm not sure. Have 3 doe tags to fill.

3 other rifles that aren't "blooded".

Savage 111 chambered in 257 Roberts AI with 120gr Partition.

Browning A Bolt in 25 WSSM with 115gr Berger VLD.

And Ruger 77 MKII in 25-06 with 120gr Sierra HPBT GameKings.

This year it'll be three for me. My 6.5 SAUM for my CA blacktail hunt. Then for NV and CO, I'll be taking my 30-28 Nosler as my primary rifle and my 284 Win as the backup.

Guess I be in the deer woods with a Howa Mini action custom 6.5 Grendel loaded with H-335 and a 100 TSSX Barnes bullet it’s a mean little bugger out to 300 yds

The last few years mostly been going with a 6 Dasher with Krieger #3 contour barrel, Jewell trigger, Leupold scope, Berger 105 hunting VLD's. I have made some pretty memorable shots with it. This year I will start with my 10 Point CB, maybe switch to My 25-06 with a Rock Creek #3 barrel, Jewell trigger, Leupy VX5-HD scope, shooting Nosler Etips. May follow up with my new CVA 50 cal. if the urge strikes me. Actually pretty sure the urge will strike me ;)
