Deer Fence / Repellent / alternative?

Anybody tried using "frebreze" or another, cheap "stanky" scent to keep deer out of gardens or sunflower fields?
I have a 3/4" ribbon all the way around the field and
I've been buying "plotsaver" deer repellent and spraying the ribbon per the instructions and it's getting costly $$$$.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Killing deer out of season is not an option.
The field is 5 miles from my house. Dog is not an option either.

get some cheap cologne--aqua velva or brut---if they still make it?? lol...works for an entire deer season...
an electric fence may help if you can keep it up--they tend to run through it though...I feel you, I fed around 40 all winter-- now hogs moved in---rubber buckshot???

Sir when we had a garden i would run electric fence, wipe it down with peanut butter a few times a season. Even had people stop an ask how it worked, and it worked fine, it may work better if you run a ground wire above and below with power in the middle, never had a deer problem for years. good luck Painter

Years ago I saw a clever trick, a farmer near the state park full of deer protected his beans with a clover patch. It worked so good I couldn’t believe it. After he harvested the beans then he baled the clover! Ha

Mark , I got tired of Deer crapping in my small yard and eating various plants . Normally I don't have much faith in product claims ..... like the glue pads for mice ...... which never worked for me . Anyway , I went to the local Agway and was told to buy some " Deer Scram " which is a powder in a bucket. Expensive , but worked like a charm for me .

Gallon water, 1/2 doz rotten eggs, bunch of ground red pepper and a sprayer. Soak everything after it rains. Last about two rains, do it again.

A bar of Irish spring soap in a cloth bag nailed to a stake will keep deer away from a deer stand . Especially if that stand is on your property line.

Bar of Irish Spring soap in a sock? Check it for teeth marks.
Loud radio? Mood music while they eat.
Deer repellent spray? = Salad dressing.
Deer fence. At least 10' tall with a wire and flag at the top.
I've watched deer jump standing flat footed over a 6' fence with room to spare.
Fish and Game permit and .223.;)

Wasted meat isn’t a solution. Most of the serious guys run a triple electric fence that keeps everything out

Ok, this sounds crazy but it worked for me...

Go to your local barber shop and ask for all the floor sweepings (yes, nasty). Stuff the hair and other random floor morsels in socks. Nail the socks on posts, trees, etc around the perimeter. Then wash your hands 30-40 times.

A motion sensor light wired to a radio is what my great uncle used. Scared the stuff outa me first time I walked to the outhouse though.

As a long time gardener I have had a decades long fight with browsing deer. The trouble with hair clippings, cologne, soap shavings etc. is that deer get used to them and then ignore them. Even motion lights and motion activated sprinklers radios etc. are ignored after awhile. The sprays work but as you have said they are expensive and sooner or later the rain will wash them off and you will forget to reapply. I have to say that the advice one old timer gave me years ago that if a deer is stressed or hungry enough it will eat ANYTHING GREEN spray or no spray holds very true. So after spending a lot of dollars on plants and sprays and other gimmicks I only plant ornamentals that are so called "deer resistant" in my yard but I expect them to get at the very least nipped at and tried by the deer. For my vegetable garden it's a multi wire 9-10ft. fence with an electric fence charger nothing has worked better than this. Good Luck
