Deciding between a few scopes

I have a friend with a new Gen 3 razor that is willing to sell to me for $2300.\

I am in the market for a new scope and was eyeing the MK5 5-25 and the Tract Toric 4.5-30. The leupold seems to have some here and there tracking issues that ive seen pop up.

My question is, with mil. discount's, the MK5 ends up about $650 cheaper and the tract is about $850 cheaper than the great price ive got offered to me on the Gen 3 razor.

Ive never looked through one, but hear good things. Is it worth the extra money over the other 2 options?

Rifle will be a 100-1000 yard steel gun and probably use for 100-400 hunting.

I can't believe the way some folks can spend that kind of money on a scope. I own several scopes and none make me any better a shooter. With the prices I pay for TASCO World class and Sightron II I can buy 10 for the price they pay for one scope. The most I have EVER paid for a scope is $500 and that was for a B&L 6-24x40 with fine cross-hairs and a target dot. I don't know how any scope can be that superior to a B&L~!!!

for making precise shots say moving 1/10th of an inch on target for a condition the power and clarity helps make that 1/10th move, but just shooting steel 6x24 is fun as it gets, the higher power has helped my gun handling a bunch but I'm not a good shooter I have my days, I kinda put them in there

if just shooting steel any of the scopes will work, I would go the cheaper route and invest in a barrel with leftover money, Tract has good reviews but let some other people help with your decision...all good scopes you mentioned they will all get the job done

Look through a Razor befofe you buy. The glass is darker than most to the point I have never bought one.
Only been around a few or the tract scopes.
The Leupolds have a pretty good reputation so far in the crowds I shoot with.

Decide more clearly what fearures you want and then narrow down from there. If willing to buy used it opens up the market a fair amount. No particular order but NF, kahles, March, zcomp, steiner, burris, bushnell are more common for my sport and people.
If you want a tree type reticle find one thats usable to your mind. Some of the busier reticles are confusing and have too much going on.
Max magnification would be another thought
Turrets and how visible and how you will use them is imoportant

I have personally run ths heck out of NF with little issue as well as a bushnell that has seen seasons of beating with no issues. Have March, NF, steiner, kahkes and even a Hawke tactical thats decent for price point. Zeiss has entered the market recently as well.

Depending on the scopes use. If off a rest or bi- pod, pick the one that has best clarity n reliability of adjustments. If u have to hold the rifle up with ur two hands, the weight of all these newer high power scopes is just too much. They are heavy.
I tend to use fixed power scopes as they are much lighter n cause less fatigue.,
Also, less to malfunction in a fixed power scope.

Looks like EurOptic has the Vortex for $2,600 after code VTX12. You say it is for steel at up to 1000 and hunting out to 400 yards. For that purpose, I don't think you need to spend that much. The Tract Torix gets good reviews for one grand less. You can spend the extra money on a lighter hunting scope.

I have a Sightron SIII and a Delta Stryker that was three times the price. There is a lot more difference in how I shoot on the day or the conditions than between the scopes ;)
Those Sightron SIII’s are a good value Japanese scope. I really like the 6-24x50 PLR model, mostly because the center dot can be illuminated and it has red markings on each full moa on the turrets adjustment that helps my eyes see it.
I will buy one of the NF Nxs 5-22x50 that Clancy mentioned sometime, just because of that scope’s long reputation and its moar reticle.

The Razor is a fantastic scope with a proven track record for the money. Their customer service goes above and beyond. If you run your scope over with your truck, they'll replace it. But for what you want to do, no need.

Yes, I've got the SS 6-24x50 LR SFP got it for half price when they went EOL. Good scope even at full price.

Brownells has NF ATAC-R 7-35 on sale for 2700 right now.

For the OPs intended usage, you might want to look at Crimson Trace Hardline Pro series of scopes.
Good Japanese glass. Fit and finish are really good! Smooth controls.
Light weight enough for the hunting purpose.
And FFP with illumination is in the $700-800 range.

I got one of their Series 2 scopes when they were discontinued.
Liked it good enough that I bought one of their Hardline series.
I now own 4 of the Hardline.

Plus a Brushline muzzleloader scope.

Glass, and controls are about on par with the Zeiss V4 that I have.

Give them a look!

Sounds like a NF NX8 4-32x50 would do just what you need. Lighter weight than the ones you mentioned, better glass than the NXS, good choice of reticles. Available in FFP or SFP and the price is good, even better if you buy a used one. I have several in FFP and SFP and they have been great scopes.... or you can look for a used ATACR.

Wasn't impressed with my razor LHT. I like my tract toric better and even my athlon midas tacs and ares btr gen 2. That was the first and last vortex I will ever buy. Took a pretty big loss selling it like new after a few days on the dog town and the range.

I have the 4-20 toric and the 2-10. I should have got the 4.5-30, but my next scope will be the new tract with 160moa of elevation.

As others have said, get out and look through the scopes. That to me is important. Once you figure what scope you like check out Sport Optics and Euro Optic. Both run sales, sell demo models and open box scopes for a real great price.
