DBM???

So on my current build I paid $320 for a Badger Ordnance M5 DBM for a Rem 700 SA. Then doing research AFTER I paid for it I ran across other brands that look identical. I found a PTG DBM for only $99, but it doesnt come with a mag, but still that only another $50 so its still less than HALF the price! My question is for you guys that have used both of these and or any other brand. How is the quality of the PTG? Is the Badger worth the extra cash? Thanks!

I have used Badger and still have one, if at the time of the builds PTG was in the BDM business I would of bought Daves (PTG) without a thought about any other, since it's PTG tolling I used to true and chamber with.

IMHO the Badger is better than the cheaper ones, there made with better materials and closer tolerances, but for a safe queen with will only see range duty and not the hard abuse of war the lesser priced ones are fine, IMHO don't go cheap on AICS mags, factory AI mags feed the best, and are more durable than any of the knock offs.

The PT&G bottom metal is just as good as the others. I think they have a military contract to supply them directly to DoD. The real question is why Badger and other bottom metal costs close to $400......

If you've got a "name" in the tactical game, you can charge pretty much whatever you want for your products. I've got B-O, R+D Prec., ASA, & PTG DBM on my own & customers' rifles, and have yet to see a lack of quality or function with any of them. Since I get nearly all my chamber & resize reamers and other tooling from Dave at PT&G, I've been buying his DBM lately, and have been very satisfied with it.

Got to give Badger Ord credit though - AFAIK, they were the first to come out with AICS-compatible DBM, and their quality set the standard for the copies.

On Snipers Hide, just switching to Badger dbm, and Badger rings and mounts, group size shrinks on a factory Rem 700 by 50-75%.
I don't know how but supposedly it does ;)

If my memory serves me correct Dave sold his DBM to the Israeli Defense Forces for two years before releasing them to the public. The contract probably would have been cut off early if the DBM's did not work for the IDF.

Cool. Sounds good. I had my first custom rifle (.308Win) built this year and it has all Badger components on it (rail, rings, lug, DBM and bolt knob). I have a Rem 700P .223 and im gonna have that rebuilt into a custom .223 AI very soon. I have a Bartlein .224 5R 1/ 8 twist HV contour barrel blank, Badger 20moa rail, Badger rings, Badger lug, Badger knob and 40X LE trigger. I still need a DBM so thats why I created this thread. I think im gonna get the PTG flush DBM. All Badger is what I want, but if the price is more than 50% less then I must get the PTG...Thanks guys

Take a look at the Stiller Precision DBM. It works well, is easy to install, and requires almost no gunsmithing to replace a BDL bottom metal.

You paid for the recognized name and so in that respect you got your money's worth. When I started my project some months back I had caught this big price difference before ordering anything. After I studied the PT&G flush bottom metal design and reviews, I saw no reason why it shouldn't work as well as the Badger. I also sanded the PT&G down to the bare metal to match my stainless barreled action. I'd rather have done that alteration to the less expensive PT&G bottom metal instead of to the Badger.
