dbm options

HS Precision has the best DBM system if you want a flush mount. The no-hassle approach is to order an HS-Precision DBM with HS Precision stock from StockyStocks: it will come installed properly. I think they will also install the HS DBM into other stocks when you purchase both from them.

There are multitudes of after-market AICS DBM assemblies because AICS magazines are pretty much the industry standard: nothing more reliable. Problem is the 5-round AICS magazine sticks far below the surface of a traditional hunting stock.

HSP mag are complete junk and way over priced, AICS mags 1000 times better and cost less, easier to find, and simply work, the knock off AICS mags are hit or miss, but factory AI are GTG, my McM A5 has Badger Ordnance M5 bottom metal, at the time I got it there was little to choose from, today if I needed DBM bottom metal I would get Surgeon, the ears that stick out make inserting a mag in stressful situations easier.

What is the best flush or close to flush mount dbm set up for rem 700?
Thanks in advance.

Probably not what you had in mind, but I'd say the Eliseo RTS (tube gun) is the best magazine set up I've played with. It uses the previously mentioned AICS mags and can be had in short or long action lengths. The 5 round magazines sit flush to the bottom of the mag box.

I shoot a bunch of Gary's tube guns in across the course highpower and long range, but he makes hunting/tactical style stocks as well.

Things to take in account when using magazines both hidden and dbm types. The over all length for most short action magazines are 2.808" If you are shooting a rifle for long distance shooting with long VLD bullets there can be issues. To fit in the magazine the bullets must be seated with the bearing surface behind the neck shoulder juncture of the case. This is not optimal for accuracy or case capacity. There are several single stack dbm made for long actions that work well for 308 and .284 case base cartridges with long bullets. Do your homework when choosing an action and magazine. It is to late when the rifle is built.

Thanks guys.
I have been considering HSP but I have read some less than favorable comments on them and would like to buy only one setup. No tube gun chassis for me. I am building a bat action vr repeater with a McMillan stock. Hunting/fun gun. I want to shoot one rifle. I plan to switch barrels. Probably 6xc for target/varmint and .308win for hunting deer etc. I would like to feed both from same mag if possible. I don't require 5shot capability also feeding from mag would be nice but not a requirement when shooting distance. Has anyone been modifying shortening aics mags. I would like machined bottom metal. I like the mag release on HSP.

All 6 of my AICS mags can feed rounds at 2.865 coal, my Surgeon 591 action notched to except rounds around 2.930coal, I have thought about removing the stiffener in front of my mags to allow feeding/seating of longer bullets but have not found the need to do so. I had HSP setup in one of my rifles, complete waste of money and time, I gaurantee if you get the HSP DBM you'll feel the same, the mags must be kept perfectly clean or will fail to feed, the lips of the mags are extremely soft and bend easy, again effecting reliability, AICS mags simply work, pick your bottom metal, order you McM stock inletted for it and rock on.

If you think the Badger bottom metal is overpriced, check out the Stealth DBM setup from PTG. Here is a link:

129.00 is more than the badger setup and ptg includes 2 pillars.

I think maybe we have a misunderstanding; I was trying to say that the PTG bottom metal is a much cheaper alternative.
