Building a rifle for competition and noticed a lot of the fellas use davidson style bases and rings. I've always used picatinny bases and weaver style rings because I like the looks and they seem more solid. Is there any advantages with the davidson style rings and bases or is it just more of a personal preference?

I can definitely see how the davidson style would give more hand clearance when throwing the bolt and working room around the scope when loading rounds, but is there any other advantages?
Thanks.

Depends on your competition......

Davidson bases and Kelbly rings have been the gold standard for years for BR competition. Light weight, which lets you put on more barrel, and taller heights give you a better heads up attitude and keeps your face off the stock.

Picatinny rings and bases are tougher and heavier for playing army......
