David Tubb's Final Finish System

Has anyone used this system? If so, did you see an improvement of your groups or other wise.

I would also like to hear the experience's from people that used the system on new/used properly broken in barrels. Good bad or indifferent.

From what I have been able to gather from this form and over at http://www.longrangehunting.com/ and several independent site's like http://www.larrywillis.com/ and http://www.chuckhawks.com/affordable_accuracy.htm they have had good successes with the product it really pecked my interest about the system.

What I am considering doing is fire lapping a newly broken in Savage in 30 06 and would appreciate any and all input.

Thanks Glen

I have used it in my Rem 700 ADL chambered in 300 Win Mag. It cut my groups almost in half. I used the kit in which you load your own rounds. So I would recommend it, only on a gun that you wouldn't be mad if it made it shoot worse. I would like to try it again on another rifle, but the old saying 'don't fix what ain't broke' keeps running through my head.

I recently used the kit on Savage 308 that fouled more than I thought it should. There are fewer visable tool marks and accuracy seems to last past 25 rounds,an issue before). The downside is you WILL wear the throat and expect to work up a new favorite load. I picked up a few feet per second and the rifle cleans up easier so I am happy but I would NEVER do this to a custom barrel.

The Final Finish kit,s) and similar kits both use a non-imbedding lapping compound on the bullets, and with some kits you roll your own, literally by rolling a bullet between two hardened steel plates to embed the grit in the surface of the bullet.

It produces good results in rougher factory barrels, for instance in those that foul heavily or that you would replace otherwise becasue of poor performance, accuracy, fouling etc)

The kits can be used in a custom barrel but mainly for maintenance, that is when enough rounds are down the barrel that the throat and rifling close to the chamber begin to fire crack and craze. The finer grits polish some of this down and can extend the accurate life of the barrel and cut back fouling.

I would not recommend using it in a new custom barrel, it shouldn't be needed.

Like a lot of things, it is useful when properly utilized.
