Data/opinions for federal Premium .308 Match Sierra 168 gr.

Probably been asked a lot-but how many here have used or use Federal Gold Medal Match 308/168gr BTHP bullets. I have a rem .308 SPS w/20' bbl 1:12 twist. I am going to try these until I get my dies, brass, supplies to reload. Any pet reloads for accuracy?. I don't know what mine likes yet, but have to start somewhere. If these shoot really well what powder/primer duplicates these factory rounds? Thanks for your replies.

I used FC fire formed brass, CCI 200 LG primers, SMK 168's and IMR 4064. Just use Sierra's recommended load data and work your way through the chart from the lowest up, watching for psi signs. I used that with IMR's 4064 load data as a secondary reference and discovered very nice results in my 1:10 barrel. I am now working on a 178 gr AMAX hunting load over RL-15..looking real good there too.

That is the most accurate load for my Rem 40XCKS,they might have been designed together for the USAMU. One hole slightly over caliber at 100m. 2 1/2 @ 400. It could be better at range but it is a long drive just to get to a 400. I am going to sell the rifle soon because I can't let it stretch its legs. FWIW,Tom.

Thanks for the replies. I have a couple boxes to try. I may try some Black hills also (168gr.). after I get some brass saved up (or buy some) and get me some dies I plan to reload.I think I can find Winchester brass. One guy on another forum uses Lapua only, as it is good for 40 reloads-he says. That seems like a lot. I would be tickeded with 10 reloads per brass.

Just remember the 168 SMK was designed for 200 meter. That's info directly from Sierra. I have a 26in w/ 1in12 and the 168 goes psycho at 350 yards from my barrel. I am a Sierra fan. I really like IMR 4064. Usually 42.7-43.5 grs for mine. Fortunately most of my rifles don't like hot loads. My 308s have never been picky about brass and primers. Whatever makes them go bang, they group pretty well.
