Dasher with heavy bullets

Hi there
Wondering if there is any new information out there about the Dasher with heavy bullets?

I have several Dashers with 8 twist and I’ll be starting to test the 115 DTAC this weekend. Rebarreling a Dasher soon and considering 7.5 and 7 twist so I can test the Sierra 110 and Berger 115.

How much success are people having with these? I haven’t noticed them winning but It seems like there is potential?

Suggest to use a free-bore of at least 0.150" for the 115's , for capacity gains under the bullet (less pressure & more velocity).
Personally liked a 0.175" free-bore the best for them, in my 6Dasher's.
Will also suggest RL15, RL16, IMR-4166, H4350 for powders to first look at.
Used a 7.75-twist barrel mostly for the 115's, but like your choice of a 7.5 or 7-twist better.
Actually think a 7.25-twist would be optimal for the 110 - 115 bullets, but would not rule out a 7-twist either.

My 2-cents

Tried the Sierra 110 and didn’t have much luck in a 7.5 twist. They got good speeds with rl16 and could even be pushed over 3000 but I could never get a good consistently accurate load. Switched to Bart’s hammers and the vertical at 600 was 1/3rd as much.

110’s with RL16. I think a straight 7” is slightly better than a 7.5” flute 110SMK. I’ve done well in F/O with that combo out of a BRX. At 1K they are significantly better than 105-107’s.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Im starting with DTACs and my 8 twist with a fairly long throat this weekend.I generally have good success with RL-15 but have H4350, Varget, and IMR4166 as well. Johara mentions not having success with DTACs. Has anyone gotten them to a point where they are competitive with a 105?

I've done a fair amount of testing with the 110 smk. Two different 30", 7.5 twist barrels in a 6brx. I could never get them to shoot as good and consistent as the 105 hybrids. If I was to rebarrel to shoot the 110's exclusively I'd definitely try a 7 twist.

I have several Dashers. If I were wanting to shoot 115's, I would seriously consider another case, such as a 6 XC or 6 SLR, since you like to experiment for fun and knowledge.

I didn't say they were not competitive, I had some 2" groups at White horse with them, and I was using a a .150 free bore. but when I got a lot of 105 hybrids that year they were 1.270 long and spun on the Juenky only 3 divisions they would out shoot he 115 DTAC. I was a Brux 7.83 twist barrel, and the Berger 105 would out shoot them except in a head wind, don't ask me why...LOL. As with most factory bullets when that lot was done, the next Lots were not even close to 3 divisions, they ran the needle clear off the meter. and they shot the same. Then came Spencers....... jim

A buddy and I have been playin with 115DTACS in BRA so it should apply to dasher. A powder that has impressed us is MR2000. Crazy speeds and little to no signs of pressure. Is super easy to throw from a $15 Lee thrower and meters like a dream.

In 2016 1,000 Yard Nationals I shot 105 Hybrids and MR2000. In testing I found that combination could achieve well over 3200 FPS in the Dasher without pressure signs.
Small group for the match in LG with a Bartlein 5R that was very near the end of useful life.
I keep thinking of revisiting that load but happy with Varget and Bart's now.

Jim what powder and twist were you using with the DTACs?
Sorry for a dumb question but do you mean you shot 2” at 1000 with the DTAC?
