dasher turning necks

I am thinking about doing a 6 dasher should i turn the necks or not turn the necks just want some opinions i don't have a problem turning necks but does it make a difference?

Turn necks if you want everything consistent. 268nk chamber gives a full cleanup of the necks on blue box brass.

Can i ask also what freebore you guys are using not to change the subject but its nice to know all these things Thanks again KOCHIE

I've shoot a .268 neck for 5 yrs, and this past year, changed to a .273 no turn. Just jam bullets and fire form...very easy..as far as accuracy...it shot a 600/81x this fall ,and won a national championship in the summer in F-Class. My loads produce consistence 1.5 - 2.0" groups at 600 yards. As a side note, the brass I shot at a Camp Perry was my old .268 brass, loaded rounds measured .265, giving me 8 thousand total neck clearance. The brass that won the Tenn Regional with the 600/81x was twice fired, unturned brass..

I'll never turn brass again, but to each his own. I believe several top IBS shooters have also set records with no turn necks.. I use a .125 freebore reamer from Kiff.

http://www.daviscustomrifle.com/Record_Rifles.html. Read through page..you'll note that Larry was using a no turn neck...

It was pointed out to me that no current IBS records are held with a no turn neck. While I haven't done the reseaRch as of late, a little research will show that NUMBEROUS records have been shoot with a no turn neck reamer, and a .124 free bore. As a matter of fact, Dave Kiff has a no turn necked reamer that he has named " the world record holder"..

Falconpilot, did you mean a .272 neck or are you running alittle more clearance?

Jon,

Yes, I meant .273, not 272. I've actually thought about sending reamer back to Kiff and have him make it a .271 or .272, but it's shooting so good I hate to change anything. I've chambered two barrels with it so far, and both shoot very well. The new brass is thinner necked, and with the .273, I'm getting short cases that I blame on the clearance being such that the chamber is not sealing off, allowing blowby, resulting in shorter cases. The older brown box brass blows out fine, and the neck seal off. It seems the 1 thousand difference matter. Dave and I have had several discussions over this matter, and he is in agreement.

How'd you shoot 81x with 60 record shots? Counting sighters?

Good catch..sorry about that..it was a two day shoot, 3 -20 round string both days...ended with a 1198/81x, with a clean 600 on last day..

While I have a 6br that shoots tiny groups with a no turn neck, I'd never do it on a real competition gun. It does matter, sure the no turns shoot well, but you are giving something up. Especially if you are using a bushing die and not expanding your neck after. Its free accuracy.

Please explain what it is that I'm giving up? I'll gladly sacrifice brass life to not have to deal with turning necks.

By this train of thought, why aren't all the 284's and bigger guns running tight necks I if they are that much better.?
