Dasher die

A new FL. bushing die for a Dasher from Harrells just made it here so i have to try it, and the weather was just right. IT is very nice and it is very accurate and best of all the price is right.........jim

cool! I didnt know Lynwood was making dasher dies. Did you send them some fired cases? Lee

All I know is Harrells is awesome....Henry sent me a FREE new gear for the used Harrells Arbor Press I bought that the gear looked like it been hit with a hammer. I offered to pay for the gear or at least the postage. This was after Dennis told me in a 15 minute conversation how to take it apart and what to look for. Better service there isn't.

I sent 3 fired cases, he needed cases to see how the reamers vary. THe plan was to start making them in two months, but this bad boy showed up in a couple of weeks........jim

That's cool. I was just talking to Sam Hall today about the BRDX (like Dasher but with .040 longer neck.) Sam says, with his reamer, he can simply use a Dasher FL die with the bottom of the die shortened. Sam likes the BRDX -- he says one-step case forming is sure and easy. No false shoulder needed.

The only problem with any improved case from the parent 6BR case is the short length now. The blue box Lapua is very short, like 1.554 and under. This makes a 1.570 chamber history, why they did this beats me. It would be nice to know if the brass was going to stay this short or what the +/- on length was going to be. I have two boxes of short blue box Lapua i have to deal with.......jim

Jim
Please explain why a case thats a little shorter than the reamer is a problem? As long as Head space is good and you keep the barrel clean, i personally cant think of any problems. Heck maybe im missing something though. It wouldnt be the first time!! Please explain your thoughts. Lee

The gap from the end of the case to the end of the chamber should be the same, thats why we trim. I set up for .010 clearance, but last year i tried .015,after talking to Dave Bruno about that issue. If you know your chambers length, you can trim to your right length.
If you leave too much chamber exposed the carbon build up can cause an issue, plus different case lengths that push into the carbon build up cause an other issue........jim

This is an update on Harrells Dasher die. I made a big mistake in telling you about the dasher die,it worked great for 2 firings after fire forming. Then i went to set it up to push the shoulder back .0015 and the case got longer. I found out it was a 6 BR die, it came back with the brass i set with it
and it did work.
I called and he told me he didn't make a dasher die yet but he doesn't know how it happened so Monday i'll send three fired cases again and wait for the real dasher die........jim

How did the die work twice, but not the third time? Maybe I'm missing something, but it shouldn't have worked at all. The case would have hit the shoulder in the die about .10" short.

Didn't touch the shoulder FF. and the next load, i want the case to fit the chamber. You have so much spring back, then the third load i'll set it back .0015.......jim
